Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle – Cheltenham Day 4
14.50 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1)
Another where value prevails with only three winning favourites since the races inception in 2005. It does favour single figure prices though Martello Tower was a double-digit 14/1 winner – though maybe influenced by the testing conditions last year?
Barters Hill will dispute favouritism with Shantou Village at around 4’s, the former was prevalent in bumpers last season and has taken very well to hurdles this term.
Let’s check the stats and trends for this one….
- Last 11 winners ran in a Class 1 LTO
- Best previous form race is Classic Novices’ Hurdle – Shantou Village finished 2nd
- Finished first 4 LTO
- Aged 5-7
- Rated at 135+
- 3 or more hurdle runs
- Running at no more than 4f further than last run
- No Mullins winner in 18 years!!!! – pos or neg????
Preview……..
LONG DOG was one of your Super Yankee votes and bids to become Willie Mullins first winner in the Bartlett and who would bet against that? He hasn’t been out since defeating Tombstone at Leopardstown and who finished 4th in the opening day Novices.
To compliment that one, we’re opting for a longer priced one her in ALLYSON MONTERG who ran so well here in the two-and-a-half-mile novices’ hurdle on New Year’s Day when 2nd to Champers on Ice.
Those two finished well clear though another like our mentioned in the opening race, appeared to get the unfavoured ground but showed battling qualities to get within a neck. He jumps well and will be able to cope with the step up in trip so it’s a small nibble about him.
Suggested bets….
LONG DOG 1.0pt EW @ 7/1 with SkyBet in the County Hurdle
ALLYSON MONTERG 0.5pt EW @ 40/1 with Bet365 in the Bartlett
