12.45 Winning Post Bookmakers Bristol ‘National Hunt’ Maiden Hurdle (3) 2m5f141y
Timeform Top Rated:
138p 3. CRIQ ROCK Alan King Wayne Hutchinson
131p 2. BURST YA BUBBLE Seamus Mullins Andrew Thornton
130p 9. LAGAVARA Nigel Twiston-Davies Jamie Bargary (3)
Analyst’s Verdict:
Talented bumper performer Criq Rock hasn’t quite got the job done over hurdles as yet, but his experience could prove key up against some interesting newcomers, so he’s taken to get off the mark at the third time of asking over obstacles. Point-winners Topofthegame and Lovenormoney rank as the main dangers.
1.20 Stella Artois Chase (Novices’ Limited Handicap) (3) 2m192y
Timeform Top Rated:
150p 7. BACK BY MIDNIGHT Emma Baker Jamie Bargary (3)
149+ 5. MISTER SPINGSPRONG Brian Ellison Sam Twiston-Davies
148 6. RED DEVIL STAR Suzy Smith Jack Sherwood (3)
Analyst’s Verdict:
If Back By Midnight turns up in the same mood as when winning at Sandown a fortnight ago there’s every chance he can make all again in a race that doesn’t look all that strong. I’dliketheoption travelled as if still ahead of his mark last time, so he’s considered along with the consistent Red Devil Star.
1.55 Sky Bet Supreme Trial Kennel Gate Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) (1) 1m7f152y
Timeform Top Rated:
152p 2. THOMAS CAMPBELL Nicky Henderson Barry Geraghty
149p 1. CAPITAINE Paul Nicholls Sam Twiston-Davies
148 3. KEEP IN LINE Alan King Wayne Hutchinson
Analyst’s Verdict:
Thomas Campbell did well to win in the manner he did over C&D last time, the run of the race not showing him to maximum effect, and, with further improvement forthcoming, he should be able to keep his unbeaten record over hurdles intact. A case can be made for all 6 runners, though Captain Forez and Lough Derg Spirit may prove the chief threats.
2.30 Mitie Noel Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (1) 2m5f8y
Timeform Top Rated:
157 2. ROCK THE KASBAH Philip Hobbs Richard Johnson
156p 1. POLITOLOGUE Paul Nicholls Sam Twiston-Davies
145 3. ROYAL VACATION Colin Tizzard Aidan Coleman
Analyst’s Verdict:
Politologue created a deep impression on chase debut at Haydock last month, looking a smart prospect as he forged clear of his rivals, and he can take this step up in class in his stride to provide Paul Nicholls with a third successive win in this contest. Chase-debutant Captain Chaos has the physique to do well in this sphere, and is feared most.
3.05 Mitie Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (3) 2m5f141y
Timeform Top Rated:
139 7. ABBREVIATE Kim Bailey Mikey Hamill (6)
137p 11. HASTRUBAL Henry Daly Stan Sheppard
136 5. LORD OF THE ISLAND Fergal O’Brien Brodie Hampson (6)
Analyst’s Verdict:
This is wide open but Hastrubal has caught the eye in a trio of qualifying hurdle runs to date, particularly at Huntingdon in November. He rates very much the type to do better now handicapping and gets the narrow vote. Kalondra and Ritual of Senses are 2 likely threats, whilst a market move for Abbreviate would need to be viewed positively.
Timeform Top Rated:
125 3. BOREHAM BILL Ben Pauling Tom Cannon
124 7. IMPERIAL ELOQUENCE Fergal O’Brien Conor Shoemark
120 5. CLAIMANTAKINFORGAN Nicky Henderson Jeremiah McGrath
Analyst’s Verdict:
The Cheltenham listed race in which Boreham Bill and Imperial Eloquence occupied second and third positions last month is the best form on offer, with Ben Pauling’s 4-y-o taken to come out on top. There are plenty of promising sorts in opposition though, headed by Potters Story and Claimantakinforgan.
