Yesterday’s Racing
Ryan Moore completed a Guineas double, winning the 1,000 Guineas on Legatissimo at Newmarket, a day after his triumph in the 2,000.
After riding Gleneagles to victory on Saturday, Moore repeated his success the day after, though it was far from straight forward.
The Irish challenger Lucida was clear in the lead while, at the halfway point in the race Legatissimo had been last.
However, having recent experience of winning races, (it was her second win in three weeks) she sprinted well and overtook Lucida to record a second win in two days for her jockey. The winning margin in the end was three-quarters of a length.
Moore said after the race:
“It’s the first time I’ve sat on her, but she’s obviously got plenty of ability, the second is a fair filly and she has run her down real well in the end.
“They went a proper gallop – she’s got plenty of speed but she really got up the hill well. I wouldn’t be sure about a mile and a half, but I think she’ll go further.”
There is now a possibility that Legatissimo will be among those riding in a longer race, the Epsom Oaks in June. Legatissimo is 4/1 on a win and each way bet to win the Oaks. Star of Seville is 10/1 and Beautiful Romance is priced at 12/1.
The win was also a personal success for trainer David Wachman, giving him his first English Classic win.
“She won very well in Gowran last week, it was like a bit of work – we were taking a chance coming here so soon, but it worked.
“I knew that if it didn’t come too quick we definitely had a chance.”
No sooner had we posted on Facebook yesterday that Amanda Perrett was flying after ASTERONEUS’S win at Newmarket…..well done those of you who backed her next runner….
SAUCY MINX trotted up at 16’s at Salisbury!!!!!!
