Bite-gate overshadows Uruguay win

Suarez bites again

Another ‘Bite-gate’ contoversy overshadowed Uruguay’s win against Italy last night with Luiz Suarez again looking like a guilty vampire affected by the strong sunlight.

The Liverpool striker is under investigation by football’s governing body and has opened disciplinary proceedings against Suarez over the alleged biting incident.

Suarez, 27, and the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) have until 17:00 Brazilian time (21:00 BST) on Wednesday to provide evidence.

Four years ago, he famously handballed on the line to keep his country in the World Cup, as his team-mates went on to win their quarter-final penalty shootout against Ghana.

This time Suarez went unpunished, and was on the pitch as Diego Godin rose highest to head Uruguay into the last-16. Whether he will be there to join his team-mates in the next round remains to be seen.

The maximum ban Suarez could face if Fifa takes retrospective action is 24 matches or two years.

Suarez told Uruguayan television: “These are just things that happen out on the pitch. It was just the two of us inside the area and he bumped into me with his shoulder.

Suarez clearly has issues with this his third strike (or bite!) after previous with Ajax and Liverpool.

Suarez impulse-control issues?

What should FIFA do……is it a case of “three ‘bites’ and you’re out” and ban him for the rest of the World Cup?

Obviously he needs continued treatment, even though Liverpool did provide that assistance during his last ‘bitegate’ attack on Branislav Ivanovic.

What was your view?
Suarez certainly seemed to bury his mouth in the  direction of Giorgio Chiellini’s shoulder and the defender went down clutching his shoulder in two parts disbelief and one part pain.
