Friday Newsletter – 24th August 2018

Penultimate day of the Ebor and as far as we are concerned the only handicap of potential interest would be the (13.55) Sky Bet Handicap (Class 2) where three who have been on the radar go. Reshoun is an ex-Alain de Royer-Dupré import who ran really well on final start at Donny last term. He looked to be set to continue that progress on opener at HQ but has regressed since……..they reach for the cheekpieces today in a bid to sort him out and Jim Crowley rides who has done so on his 3 eye catching appearances.

We hit the crossbar with INTENSE ROMANCE yesterday at Carlisle though the 12/1 bet still gave us a nett 2/1 winner to give us a tad more progress……..it’s Chepstow and Day 2 of the Ebor today as we look to build on the last couple of profitable placed efforts this week. We’ve a rare venture into C2 today for members and thoughts and suggestions are below.

The start of the Ebor today sees some top class racing on the Knavesmire but nothing C3 to get us involved – of course there’s the odd ones we have backed before this season stepping up in class to take their chance with Harome going in the (13.55) Sky Bet And Symphony Group Handicap (Class 2). He’s come up short twice since his win and perhaps another of note is Tanasoq who was involved in earlier skirmishes when we were backing Acclaim The Nation and has progressed really well under the ‘midgemeister’

A cracking set of handicaps to ‘battle’ with at Hamilton and some decent volumes of runners with the Racing UK Profits Returned To Racing Handicap having to be split into two divisions of 11 runners……….we missed out on Crazy Tornado the other week that was gutting and he’s back out in the last there (16.55) at a measly 4/1 . We won’t be taking that on and perhaps Faye McManoman is the one to be on in terms of a little bit of value with Nigel Tinkler’s Allux Boy who has plummeted the weights following 2 early career wins and wind surgery, that whilst not producing winning results has generally seen him finish just outside the places.handicapped (in our opinion!) and today they take the route of dropping him to the minimum 5f trip, though not a whole load of value at 11/2 based on previous runnings…….we’ve just one for members in the notes below.

Yesterday’s selection went a non-runner so it’s straight into the Monday of York’s Ebor week with meets at Leicester, Thirsk & Windsor with Timeform below for the initial of those meets. At Thirsk, Kupa River who we had massive hopes for at the bringing of the season goes in the (15.20) – he’s become extremely well handicapped (in our opinion!) and today they take the route of dropping him to the minimum 5f trip, though not a whole load of value at 11/2 based on previous runnings…….we’ve just one for members in the notes below.

Another frustrating 4th place at 14’s for Dawaaleeb last night couldn’t add to our tally of winners and get heading back northwards – we’re straight into a Saturday Ripon has one it’s biggest meets with both The Great St Wilfrid and the prior consolation sprint races. Nothing solid in those but the likes of Golden Apollo and Teruntum Star look solid EW shouts at north of 8’s for those looking.

Another welcome double digit priced winner yesterday afternoon as MY AMIGO won at HQ with relative ease….if only they were as easy as that 🙂 For those on the £1k to £10k challenge….our bank has NOW grown by over 150% with an ROI of NEARLY 30%….current stakes are now £31.55 EW

It could have been better than the 4th place for our selection, Oriental Splendour yesterday who didn’t get the clearest of runs and was fairly closing them down at the finish and we’ll look to where he goes next. There’s a couple of handicaps at Nottingham this afternoon where perhaps the pick in value is Scott Dixon’s Socialites Red in the (14.00) – he’s a multiple C&D winner, close to a winning mark and the outsider of the pack at 18’s looks a little big and perhaps worth a small nibble. However we’re of to HQ for our sole play of the day….and the very last race of the evening.

Fair play to Our Little Pony who achieved what not many can do in a 5f at Beverley by winning from off the pace – like we said it was no sort of price for EW value and our selection, Kevin Ryan’s charge missed a paying shop by a neck 🙁 There’s more Beverley today along with Chepstow (nearly heavy!) and Salisbury with Timeform for that one below.
