BMW Shanghai Masters

Having gone head to head on the final day in a titanic tussle 12 months ago, Peter Hanson and Rory McIlroy are hoping to renew their rivalry.

This is the second edition of the BMW Masters presented by SRE Group, which kicks off The European Tour’s inaugural ‘Final Series’.

Henrik Stenson, who will play with McIlroy and his compatriot Graeme McDowell in the first round, is struggling with a wrist injury he sustained in practice, but remains hopeful of competing and continuing a sensational run of form which has elevated him to fourth place in the World Ranking.

Martin Kaymer, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher are other leading chances in what is a very strong field.

Aussies in the field are Brett Rumford, Marcus Fraser and Matthew Griffin. Griffin gains a start in the event courtesy of an invite by the China Golf Association.

Henrik Stenson is the favourite with Rory McIlroy the second choice. Other top contenders include Lee Westwood, Luke DonaldMartin Kaymer and Ian Poulter.

Our selections

Stenson and McIlroy are listed with single-digit odds with the rest of the field listed at double-digit odds. One player that should have some nice value is…… Ian Poulter at 25/1 with bet365

He had an excellent performance at the Open and a brief showing at the Deutsche Bank (T9). he has Far East form winning the Hong Kong Open in 2010, and the WGC HSBC Champions in 2012.

Additionally, Rory seems to be finding his game of late, finishing second at the Korea Open and should have some confidence coming into the BMW Masters….perhaps the loss of girlfriend distractions has buckled him down?

Winning here in the 2011 Lake Malaren Shanghai Masters and finished second to Peter Hanson in 2012 …..what better way to shut his critics up and land a place here? Rory is an EW PaddyPowerchance at 10/1
