Today’s Racing News

We’ve just got one selection to consider today from today’s Catterick card…….but first some news regarding Aussie July Cup raider…..BRAZEN BEAU….we may have seen enough of them with The Ashes kicking off tomorrow at Cardiff!!!!

Brazen Beau has stepped up preparations for the July Cup at Newmarket with another spin on the track at Headquarters.

The Aussie raider will be hoping to atone for a near miss in controversial circumstances at Royal Ascot last month by winning the 6f contest.

Brazen Beau should be fine on the track as he had a feel of it last week and has now had a second spin on it, so that should be no problem to him.

James Doyle

Brazen Beau was sent off joint-favourite for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot but jockey Craig Williams charted a lone course up the straight and his mount was undone in the closing stages by Undrafted, eventually going down by half-a-length.

James Doyle will take over in the saddle at Newmarket and both rider and trainer Chris Waller are happy with how preparations are going.

Doyle highlights Charlie Hills’ Commonwealth Cup winner Muhaarar as a big danger.

“Obviously we respect Muhaarar as that was a freakish run at Ascot,” he said.

“Brazen Beau should be fine on the track as he had a feel of it last week and has now had a second spin on it, so that should be no problem to him.”

Waller is pleased to have given his charge some experience of Newmarket before the race.

“He seems very well and his run at Ascot was very good and what I saw this morning, I was happy with what he achieved. The track here has more undulations than at Ascot so it is good for him to have a go on it,” he said.

The trainer added that some luck in running should see his charge involved in the shake-up.

“We know we’ve got the horse good enough he just needs a good draw and luck in running. If he gets that, I’m sure he will be there at the finish.”

July Cup Betting….

Muhaarar 3.25

Brazen Beau 3.25

Today’s feature race….

Catterick 15.00….

Short prices, 2yr old’s & selling races flies in the face of our normal selections, but the stable thought RIO DEVA blew her chances by going off a bit too hard on her second racecourse appearance at Musselburgh last week.

If they can pace her today with stable jock, Phillip Makin up top, she will take all the beating for the lumpers and a best priced win only 15/8 with SkyBet

Today’s Catterick Timeform…

2.30 Bhest Racing To School Nursery Handicap (4) 5f212y

Timeform Top Rated:
93p 4. FLYING PURSUIT Tim Easterby David Allan
89p 2. DUTCH MIST Kevin Ryan Jamie Spencer
86 3. HALSALL David O’Meara David Nolan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Flying Pursuit hasn’t been seen to best effect in 2 of his 3 starts in maidens, but he remains the type to do better, particularly now taking the nursery route. Dutch Mist accounted for Star Focus on her latest start, and is fancied to confirm those placings.

3.00 yorkshire-outdoors.co.uk Claiming Stakes (6) 5f

Timeform Top Rated:
77 4. RIO DEVA Keith Dalgleish Phillip Makin
76 2. ROARING RORY Ollie Pears Jacob Butterfield (3)
71 1. TOTAL POWER Iain Jardine Fergal Lynch

Analyst’s Verdict:

Rio Deva was arguably found out by going off a little hard at Musselburgh last week, but that was still a big step forward from her debut, so she gets the nod in the hope she can keep enough in reserve this time. Roaring Rory and Total Power are both live threats, and feared in that order.

3.30 Support The Great North Air Ambulance Median Auction Maiden Stakes (5) 1m3f214y

Timeform Top Rated:
83p 2. BLACK KEY Hughie Morrison David Allan
82p 3. DASAATEER Roger Varian Graham Lee
78+ 1. AMIRLI Donald McCain Tom Eaves

Analyst’s Verdict:
Dasaateer improved markedly on his sole 2-y-o start at Newmarket last month, despite not being knocked about, and the well-bred son of Mount Nelson is the one to beat now upped in trip. Black Key is proving consistent and rates the main danger.

4.00 Happy 85th Birthday Walter Houlden Handicap (5) 7f

Timeform Top Rated:
92 1. FATHER BERTIE Tim Easterby David Allan
87 5. SALTARELLO Marjorie Fife Fergal Lynch
86 6. CHARLOTTE’S SECRET Richard Fahey George Chaloner

Analyst’s Verdict:
Father Bertie made the most of a good opportunity when opening his account at Wetherby last month, but has looked an improved performer of late nevertheless, and may be the way to go now handicapping fitted with cheekpieces. Cape Lion and Angels Above are handicap debutants likely to do better.

4.30 Yvonne Mee Celebration Handicap (4) 1m7f177y

Timeform Top Rated:
94 6. HOT SPICE Michael Easterby Graham Gibbons
92 2. COUSIN KHEE Hughie Morrison Connor Beasley
91 4. CHIVERS Tim Easterby David Allan

Analyst’s Verdict:
It looks a wise move to turn Hot Spice out under a penalty given the manner of his Thirsk success 7 days ago, and he may be the way to go in his follow-up bid. High Secret is steadily progressive and warrants respect, with handicap-debutant Sands of Fortune also worth a second look.

5.00 racinguk.com Handicap (6) 7f

Timeform Top Rated:
77 14. SIGNORINA ROSEINA David O’Meara Shelley Birkett (3)
75 13. JEBEL TARA Alan Brown Dale Swift
75 6. FAST CHARLIE Ann Duffield Tom Eaves

Analyst’s Verdict:
Smalljohn was in good form in the spring and can resume winning ways on his return from a short break from a handy draw against the rail. Signorina Roseina promises to be suited by this longer trip and is an obvious threat for the O’Meara team, while Sugar Town is back on a good mark and should be sharper for last month’s reappearance.

5.30 Racing Again Next Wednesday 15th July Handicap (5) 5f212y

Timeform Top Rated:
93 4. SPIRIT OF WEDZA Mark Johnston Franny Norton
91 2. PERARDUA Richard Fahey David Nolan
90 5. KYLLACH ME Bryan Smart Connor Beasley

Analyst’s Verdict:
Choppy Water promises to be suited by the return to 6f and can provide the in-form Tim Easterby stable with another winner. Spirit of Wedza hasn’t been the easiest to predict but is handicapped to go close if anywhere near his best, while Quite Smart ran poorly on AW last time but is worth another chance back on turf.
