Champion Hurdle Preview
We’ve already posted our main fancy in our £64,000 acca with JEZKI but as the race approaches, prices have shortened and for those looking for double-digit value we bring our Champion Hurdle preview….
Our selection JEZKI thrives around Cheltenham and though beaten by Hurricane Fly on each occasion this year we expect the reigning champ to prevail agian for Jessica Harrington. He’s a current best priced 5/1 with Bet Victor for those looking for an easy each-way saver?
So what about Hurricane Fly, we just feel, probably on gut, that surely an 11 year old cannot win the race for the third time? His form this season has been impeccable and may well prove us wrong and he has eased slightly in the market to a best 8/1 with SkyBet.
Faugheen has been heavily backed into a best 5/4 as an unbeaten versatile charge who has won all nine races on any sort of going and any type of track. He has acted for any jockey….and their have been four to date, so Willie Mullins’ horse is justifiedly the one to beat on paper.
2nd favourite, The New One was an unlucky loser last year after being hampered when Our Conor fell. He remains unbeaten since and Nigel Twiston-Davies will be looking to go one better this year. However, he still appears to have retained the habit of drifting right which could scupper him under pressure?
So with Mullins likely to have three runners, have we missed a trick? Well yes in terms of value in our opinion. ARCTIC FIRE (pictured above) has been placed on his last two outings in the Irish Champion and Ryanair Hurdle nonetheless and was a noted 3rd in the County Hurdle at last years festival.
He has been has been attracting positive comments from his trainer lately following those two afore mentioned races where he was just adrift of Hurricane Fly and Jezki in the Ryanair and split the two the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown.
Since the start of the season he has improved 15lbs in the official handicap ratings, currently standing on a rating of 162. He’s a definite top of the ground horse with a classy turn of foot which leads us to think that he can get pretty close belittling the extended odds currently on offer.
He’s still improving and with odds of a best 14/1 with SkyBet (no runner /no bet) is one for those looking at longer odds for your singles or MONSTER each-way acca’s
