Champions League Group D

Champions-League-Group D

Tomorrow’s Champions League Group D sees Chelsea take on Schalke 04 at Stamford Bridge with the German outfit smarting from a 4-1 Bundesliga thrashing at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach.

Schalke will be without Benedikt Howedes for the clash at Stamford Bridge, with the German defender ruled out by a groin strain.

Didier Drogba could feature for Chelsea in Wednesday’s Champions League Group G opener against Schalke at Stamford Bridge after recovering from injury.

The striker missed Saturday’s Premier League win against Swansea with an ankle problem but trained on Tuesday.

Drogba, 36, who rejoined the club in the summer, scored the decisive penalty in Chelsea’s Champions League final win over Bayern Munich in 2012. Petr Cech will be hoping for a start in goal.

Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho says he will not become obsessed with the mission of trying to win a third Champions League crown.

The Portuguese is already one of only five men to have won the European Cup with two different clubs, but he now has the chance to make history during his second spell in charge of the Blues.

It’s far from being an obsession and it’s not something that I think about a lot.

Jose Mourinho

Mourinho, who has already triumphed with FC Porto and Inter Milan, says that he will not get hung up on the opportunity he has to set a new benchmark, as he told reporters: “Do I want to try to win it again? Of course.

“What drives me is to try to win. I work for my club, for my players and for the club supporters. I don’t work for myself.

“If I win it once more, to win with three clubs is unique. But even if I don’t do it, how many top managers in the world have only one or even not a single one?

“The greatest in our country (Sir Alex Ferguson), he won it twice.

“If at the end of my career I’ve achieved that situation, then good, but it’s far from being an obsession and it’s not something that I think about a lot.”

Champions League Betting……

Chelsea are available at 6/1 to win the Champions League this season, with Arsenal 20/1 and Manchester City 14/1.

Suggested Bet…..

The outright markets look best ignoring as Chelsea should win comfortably but the price very much mirrors that theory.

This looks a far more intriguing area to focus on with the shape of the markets seemingly glazing over the fact that the Blues have the joint-eighth worse defensive record in the Premier League so far this season, conceding six goals in four games.

The Germans have scored in every game this season and Klaas Jan Huntelaar, supported by Draxler, are a front pair that should be able to continue that record at Stamford Bridge, so it looks a certainty for a BTTS – YES
