Easter Monday – 2nd April 2018

Saturday was a good day in terms of returns and anyone adding Lamanver Odyssey from the intro commentary were rewarded with another 5/1 winner….slightly disappointed we didn’t add it to the selections but we expected 4’s or under.

Back to today……I can’t remember a Bank Holiday with such ‘tosh’ racing….if indeed we get any!

At time of writing…Huntingdon & Redcar (flat) already gone……Chepstow Heavy (heavier or off)

Fakenham & Plumpton….neither have a race with over 7 runners….

Only Market Rasen looks to have any confirmed action and any interest looks confined to the opener (14.10) and a 10 runner race to press, with any ‘exposed form’. However, we have a definite interest in that in terms of a ‘members selection’ and we’ll look to keep the run going.

We’re writing this at 5.00am so apologies if anything changes to the content below with a ‘scheduled’ post sending time of 8.30am

Today’s Views….

If Chepstow goes ahead, then Overtown Express is one we backed LTO last month when switched to hurdling – perhaps it pre-empted a tilt at this and he renews battle with Tornado In Milan, though neither offer any value.

Both Cork and Fairyhouse feature heavily the other side of the Irish Sea, though we’ll leave that to Declan and if you want to join him the offer is at the bottom of the page.

Have a great Easter Monday and we’ll be back tomorrow at 8.00am……there’s no NH scheduled now until THURSDAY at Warwick with Wincanton already off tomorrow.

However , we will post daily with speed ratings and if anything springs out on the flat at this early stage.

As ever, please drop us a line at feedback@always-back-winners.com with any questions or issues.

2.10 Farmhouse Foods Novice Handicap Hurdle 2m

Analyst’s Verdict:
This is seriously competitive, but Quamino reacted really well to the fitting of a tongue strap when successful at Wexford a fortnight, and given he was value for quite a bit extra, the follow up is a real possibility. Corri Lindo, Icario and Golden Jewel head the opposition.

Timeform Top Rated:
137 16. QUAMINO Paul Nolan B. J. Cooper
136 19. BABANANGO A. J. Martin A. E. Lynch
135p 2. WHISPERINTHEBREEZE Mrs J. Harrington Robbie Power

2.45 Rathbarry & Glenview Studs Novice Hurdle (Grade 2) 2m

Analyst’s Verdict:
Willie Mullins has saddled the winner of this race 5 times since 2009 and Getabird can enhance that already impressive record. Though bitterly disappointing in the Supreme at the Cheltenham Festival, it’s far too soon to forget just how good he looked when winning the Moscow Flyer at Punchestown and it could be that he’s better going right-handed. Stablemates Sharjah and Sayar can fill the places.

Timeform Top Rated:
158 1. GETABIRD W. P. Mullins P. Townend
157 7. SHARJAH W. P. Mullins D. J. Mullins
152 9. VENEER OF CHARM Gordon Elliott J. W. Kennedy

3.15 Fairyhouse Steel Handicap Hurdle 2¾m

Analyst’s Verdict:
Space Cadet has been in good form over fences this winter and might be worth siding with off his lower mark back hurdling. Bargy Lady hasn’t been seen since contesting a 3m handicap here last spring but she shaped well on that occasion and likely has more to come. The selection’s stablemate has been freshened up for this after some decent efforts in the autumn and also makes the shortlist.

153 10. AH LITTLELUCK T. Gibney A. E. Lynch
153 15. SPACE CADET Gordon Elliott J. W. Kennedy
152 12. JIMMY BREEKIE Stuart Crawford J. J. Slevin

3.50 Keelings Irish Strawberry Hurdle (Grade 2) 2½m

Analyst’s Verdict:
Willie Mullins saddles seven in his bid to win this for the sixth time since 2008. The one to deliver may be Coquin Mans, who was beaten 4 lengths by Jezki at Tipperary in October but is 7 lb better off here and, moreover, he improved when runner-up in a strong race at Down Royal next time. Stablemate Renneti, who won this last year, should make another bold bid and Identity Thief is also feared.

Timeform Top Rated:
170§ 4. RENNETI W. P. Mullins D. E. Mullins
169 8. BLEU ET ROUGE W. P. Mullins J. S. McGarvey
167 12. LET’S DANCE W. P. Mullins B. J. Cooper

4.25 Devenish Chase (Grade 2) 2½m

Analyst’s Verdict:
Doctor Phoenix has improved since joining the Gordon Elliott yard, winning a Naas Grade 3 and finishing second in the Webster Cup at Navan on his last 2 starts. Going back up in trip shouldn’t be an issue and he is an appealing alternative to likely favourite Un De Sceaux, who looks vulnerable on the back of his Cheltenham Festival defeat. British raider Kylemore Lough also enters calculations.

Timeform Top Rated:
175 2. UN DE SCEAUX W. P. Mullins P. Townend
173 8. KYLEMORE LOUGH Harry Fry Noel Fehily
171 5. DOCTOR PHOENIX Gordon Elliott Davy Russell

5.00 Boylesports Iris

Irish Grand National Chase (Extended Handicap) (Grade A) 3m5f

Analyst’s Verdict:
Pairofbrowneyes was much improved when making a successful start for Willie Mullins at Gowran last month and remains unexposed as a staying chaser. He’s taken to land this big prize. The Kim Muir form offers some big clues, with the second Mall Dini and third Squouateur, one of a potential 13 runners for Gordon Elliott, looking key players. Oscar Knight is another interesting one.

Timeform Top Rated:
180 10. MALL DINI Patrick G. Kelly M. P. Walsh
179 11. FOLSOM BLUE Gordon Elliott Robbie Power
179 7. PAIROFBROWNEYES W. P. Mullins P. Townend

5.45 Fred Kenny Lifetime Service To Racing Handicap Chase 3m150y

Analyst’s Verdict:
Poormans Hill has to improve again to win his fifth race over fences here after being put up ten pounds by the handicapper but he just keeps on improving for Gordon Elliott and may well add one more victory before being weighted out of things. Stable-companion Out Sam could prove to be his biggest rival yet and may be the one for the forecast leaving Paper Lantern as the each-way alternative.

Timeform Top Rated:
150§ 1. OUT SAM Gordon Elliott Davy Russell
148 8. PAPER LANTERN Karl Thornton Donagh Meyler
147 2. CLOSE SHAVE Mrs J. Harrington Barry Geraghty

6.15 Cawley Furniture I.N.H. Flat 2m

Analyst’s Verdict:
Plenty with claims here including Derby, who created a good impression when landing a Gowran bumper on Rules debut last month. He should have more to give yet. Brace Yourself and Getaway John head the list of dangers.

Timeform Top Rated:
123 1. BRACE YOURSELF Noel Meade Miss N. Carberry
114 2. DERBY W. P. Mullins Mr B. O’Neill
113 7. VOIX DES TIEP W. P. Mullins Mr W. J. Gleeson (7)

Like we said earlier in the week, we will not be covering the Irish Easter scene so if you want a few additional sniffs on Easter Monday, as ever we would recommend Declan as the man in the know

Declan has years of experience ….. and historically his big tipping claim to fame is that he had the first five winners – from six races – on the opening day at Cheltenham in 2000 which made front and back page news. He also tipped two 20/1 Galway Plate winners in three years, and the Powers Gold Cup on Easter Sunday – now the Ryanair Gold Cup – has also been very lucky for him with Jadanli 25/1 and One Cool Cookie 12/1 winners which immediately spring to mind.

Over this Easter weekend both Cork and Fairyhouse host these highlights of the Irish sporting calendar

The Cork Easter Festival runs from Saturday 31st March – Monday 2nd April and the Fairyhouse Festival which includes the Irish Grand National runs from Sunday 1st April – Tuesday 3rd April 2018.

Declan anticipates plenty of very high quality selections over the 4 days and has agreed to share his best bets with a maximum of 200 of our readers on a first come first served basis. So if you’re looking for some first class tipping make sure you act fast and join us for what promises to be a spectacular Easter Monday
