Rory McIlroy DP World Tour Championship

Rory McIlroy is keen to end a brilliant year in style by securing victory at this week’s DP World Tour Championship finale.

The world number one has won the PGA Championship at Wentworth and the Open Championship at Hoylake as well as the US PGA Championship at Vahalla in 2014 as well as playing his part in Europe’s Ryder Cup success against the USA.

The 25-year-old Ulsterman missed last week’s Turkish Airlines Open but still won the Race to Dubai and is eyeing the perfect end to a perfect year.

He said: “Regardless that I have won the Race to Dubai, I still want to play really well this week and try and win this tournament because there would be no point in me showing up if I felt that I had already won something and was just here for a good time.

“I want to pick two trophies up on the 18th green on Sunday, instead of one, and I feel like I’m playing well. I’ve hit the ball well in practice so we’ll see what happens.

“The last week or so I’ve really put my head down and focused on my golf. That’s been great. I’ve really felt I’ve had a bit of preparation coming into the event. I feel good with my game and hopefully I’ve done enough work to be ready for Thursday.”

McIlroy is 9/2 to win the DP World Tour Championship outright, while Graeme McDowell can be backed at 25/1, Martin Kaymer at 22/1 and Justin Rose at 14/1.
