Eight surprise players for the FIFA World Cup 2014

AC Milan v AC Spezia - TIM Cup

Just two days to go and today we look at eight surprise players who may make an impact on their Group in the FIFA World Cup 2014.

In 2010, little was expected of the Japanese fans before the World Cup started, never mind the rest of the world. So it was a pleasant surprise when it turned out that the team was quite fun and in Keisuke Honda, we had one of the stars of the tournament.

We take a look at eight who may surprise this year in Brazil?

Group A…..

Diego reyes eight surpise players world cup 2014 always back winners

Mexico’s young central defender Diego Reyes will face a tough ask for a berth in their line up but the talented 21-year-old is becoming a regular face with the senior squad and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him get some action.

The FC Porto man looks set to have a great future at club and countryand this would be a big progression for him up against the leading attackers on the World’s stage.

He can play deep midfield role, or if Mexico play with a back three he could feature from the start.

On the other hand, if Mexico go with a back three, Reyes is likely to be in from the very start.

Group B…..

Daley Blind eight surprise stars world cup 2014 always back winners

Daley Blind can be a huge force for Netherlands given head coach Louis van Gaal’s preference of tactical nous and switches. Whilst he isn’t quite the big name yet compared to his team-mates in midfield such as; De Jong or Jordy Clasie, his composure on the ball and versatility can make him a big player in the tournament.

He’s played left side of the diamond midfield in the warm-ups, however Blind is adaptable and can also play at left-back, a controlling deep midfielder or on each flank in a 3-5-2 or3-4-3, which the Dutch go with?

Group C…..

Yoichiro Kakitani Eight surprise players Always Back Winners

Japan may have uncovered another gem Yoichiro Kakitani an attacking talent and one of their most impressive performers. He posseses the talent to provide probing runs behind opposition defences. Alongside clinical finishing skills he can see his team through in a tight group.

With just 11 games for the senior side so far he could end up leading for Japan at the start of the World Cup. He is cool, clinical and with five goals already, Kakitani could well prove another far eastern budding star.

Group D……

Alessio Cerci eight suprise players Always Back winners

Someone the English side may not be looking forward to playing against is Italy and  Torino’s Alessio Cerci.

He’s had a fine Serie A season and arrives to the World Cup in good form, with 13 league goals to his name in 2013-14.

With fantastic close control  and dribbling skills, he is a serious goal threat in a side not blessed with proven scorers at this level….England beware!

Group E……

Antoine Griezmann eight surprise players

Antoine Griezmann is a total novice on the international stage but for France without Ribery, he may well get a real shot. He has had an explosive start with the national team so don’t be surprised to see Griezmann as one of France’s biggest stars within a few games!

Group F……

Sead Kolasinac eight surprise winners

Sead Kolasinac has just broken into the Bosnia and Herzegovina squad and likely start as their left-back. The 20-year-old is aggressive at both ends of the pitch with great pace up and down the channels.

Though a rookie, he has stormed into their side with his energetic play in an all-out-attacking side that may surprise and excite a few along the way?

Group G…..

Graham Zusi Eight surprise players

Graham Zusi may prove a pivotal link in the United States diamond midfield, with his excellent off-the-ball work and impressive work rate on the right side of midfield.

He links play well in the central areas and has a great engine to get up and down the field. with the ability to put in pin point crosses as well as being good defensively, he will be important link in Jurgen Klinsmann’s team.

Group H…….

Aleksandr Kokorin eight surpise players

Fabio Capello’s Russia have plenty of technical, fast attackers and a midfield that enjoys dictating possession. In Aleksandr Kokorin they also have a clinical finisher who should get the chance to impress at some stage in the tournament.

He made his debut in November 2011 after scoring a glut of goals for the Under-21 side and is a talented young striker with a knack for scoring crucial goals.
