Emirates Melbourne Cup 2013
Following this weekends Breeder’s Cup we head off next week to ‘Oz for the Emirates Melbourne Cup 2013.
IRELAND will be represented by Simenon in the Emirates Melbourne Cup 2013, following the scratching of Silent Achiever at the Flemington spectacular.
Simenon, due to represent Willie Mullins and Richard Hughes, started the day 23rd in the order of the entry for Tuesday’s contest, but with the winners of Saturday’s Mackinnon Stakes and Lexus Stakes both offered a guaranteed spot, the star stayer could conceivably have missed out on a place in the race, which has a maximum of 24 runners.
However, Silent Achiever, who had been 19th in the handicap, will miss the race – worth £2.5 million to the winner – after trainer Roger James abandoned plans to saddle the Caulfield Cup eighth, who is suffering from a temperature and infection.
Simenon, an excellent third behind the reopposing Sea Moon in the Herbert Power Stakes three weeks ago, now moves up to 22nd in the order of entry.
The new number 23, Mr Moet, is thought unlikely to run, which would leave Kellini and Ibicenco in the top 24 prior to Saturday’s racing.
The final field for the Melbourne Cup is announced at a barrier draw ceremony due to take place after Saturday’s Derby day card.
Unlike other Australian races, reserves are not permitted due to the TAB betting system only being able to accommodate a maximum of 24 horses.
However….first off is the Breeders Cup so follow the links below for latest news…..
