Epsom Derby latest confirmations
Fast approaching Saturday and yesterday there was a firming up of the field with the Epsom Derby latest confirmations being that Kevin Manning will ride Godolphin’s Sudden Wonder.
A winner in 2008 on New Approach, he replaces Mickael Barzalona.
Charlie Appleby believes his Epsom experience makes him most suited for the ride. Appleby said:
“I have spoken to connections and we agreed that we would like Kevin Manning to be on board as his style of riding will suit Sudden Wonder. He is a ver positive rider and experienced around Epsom. He partnered New Approach, Sudden Wonder’s sire, to victory in the Derby.”
Further news sees a ride for apprentice jockey Oisin Murphy. The eighteen year old, Ayr Gold Cup winning jock gets his first Derby ride after being nominated for Red Galileo.
Murphy is one of the best young talents around since young Wally Swinburn and for the spotty teenager, a Derby engagement confirms his rise is becoming rapidly meteoric.
He also gets a Coronation Cup ride on Beacon Lady which is a further testimonial to his rising talent.
William Buick has also chosen Sandown Classic Trial winner Western Hymn over stablemate Romsdal.

We posted a couple of big price EW’s yesterday with no reward, however, BENNELONG got an absolute shocker of a run.
“Took keen hold, held up in last pair, headway 2f out, soon not clear run and switched left to inside, hampered on rail 1f out, soon switched right, plugged on towards finish, no threat opened 12/1 touched 20/1”
We’ll keep an eye for the next outing….on to today…..
One of our pre-season ’12 to follow’ selections goes up against one of our notebook horses today, so we’ll take a look at that race……
Nottingham 15.50…..REMOTE was impressive in the early half of 2013 winning the Tercentary Stakes at Royal Ascot but a little under a year ago. News has been vague as to his well being and hasn’t been seen out since and the lack of activity is a concern. If stripping fit is a class above these and a best priced win only bet at 13/8 with SkyBet.
Fort Bastion entered our notebook after landing the Thirsk Hunt Cup and just failed to follow up at York next time out, he looks the one to be on for the forecast but is alo a current priced, and EW saver 4/1 with BetVictor.

Kempton 19.30…..our other selection in a wide open handicap and a case can be made for most of the field but preference is for horses drawn high. LUCKY DI gets the EW value vote after 6th last time out and seen making progress in the latter stages of the race and a best EW 10/1 with PaddyPower.
