Everton v QPR: Premier League
Everton v QPR from Goodison tonight with Blues defender John Stones set to make a quicker-than-expected comeback after two months out with an ankle injury.
Gareth Barry is suspended while Steven Naismith, James McCarthy and Darron Gibson will be given fitness tests. QPR will be without their top scorer Charlie Austin, who is suspended after his red card last weekend.
Defender Steven Caulker is fit despite needing hospital treatment on a head cut sustained when falling over while out with team-mates last Sunday.
If there were points for clowning around wearing garish Christmas jumpers, Queens Park Rangers would probably be well clear of the relegation zone by now.
Whether it has been Caulker’s visit to hospital after falling over at a team social – or members of the squad lip-syncing to Slade’s “Merry Christmas Everybody” for a video – we’ve now all seen quite enough of QPR players adorned in woolly snowflakes.
Statistics…..
Head-to-head
- QPR have won on three of their six Premier League visits to Goodison Park, including a 5-3 victory in April 1993 when Les Ferdinand scored a 13-minute hat-trick.
- The Toffees have managed just three wins in their 12 Premier League meetings with QPR.
- Everton beat QPR 4-0 at Goodison Park in the FA Cup third round in January.
Everton
- Everton have won just six points from their last six Premier League matches (W1 D3 L2).
- The Toffees have won only two of their last eight Premier League games at Goodison Park (W2 D3 L3).
- According to Opta, Everton have made more errors leading directly to goals than any other team in the Premier League this season (eight).
QPR
- QPR have won two of their last three games but have lost all seven Premier League away games this season, scoring just two goals. They are only the second Premier League team after Bolton (who lost their first nine in 1995-96) to lose their first seven away matches in a season.
- The Hoops have allowed their opponents more shots on target against them than any other team in the Premier League this season (86).
- Rob Green has been forced into a save on average every 23 minutes which is a more regular rate than any other goalkeeper this season.
- Half of QPR’s 16 league goals this season have come from Austin. He is the only player to have scored a goal away from Loftus Road.
Suggested Bets…..
Rob Green has been forced into a save on average every 23 minutes which is a more regular rate than any other shot-stopper this season……..Everton are 2.28 to win the HT/FT battle
Only West Ham (12) have scored more headed goals than Everton (6) in the top flight this season……..Lukakau is 2.12 to score anytime.
QPR notching only twice to date in seven Premier League away encounters, you can be fairly confident of Everton breaking the deadlock when these sides meet on Merseyside on Monday night, and that usually means Lukaku breaking the deadlock by extension.
Back Everton to win HT/FT @ 2.28
Back Lukakau to score anytime @ 2.12
