F1 US Grand Prix 2013
The 2013 Formula 1 season’s penultimate race the F1 US Grand Prix takes place in Austin, Texas, at the Circuit of the Americas.
Surprise surprise….going into the race, major prizes have been settled—Vettel is world champion and the constructors has gone to Red Bull. However, with a few ‘driver gigs’ for 2014 still up for grabs, the race is far from a guaranteed procession.
In today’s final practice, Sebastian Vettel left it to the last moment to steal pole position away from Red Bull team mate Mark Webber.
Webber looked to have sealed P1 on his last run, but moments later Vettel completed a perfect final sector to grab the top spot by just over a tenth of a second.
Romain Grosjean of Team Lotus used his stellar performance in the third practice session to gain momentum heading into Saturday’s qualifying and managed an impressive third-place finish. His time of 1:37.155 has him less than a second off the pace of the leaders.
Nico Hulkenberg of Team Sauber was another driver that took his solid finish in Saturday’s morning practice and carried it over into qualifying with a time of 1:37.296. He earned a fourth-place starting spot for Sunday’s event.
Team Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top five with a time of 1:37.345.
Our view…
Today we fancy Mark Webber for a podium finish or better after his qualifying. Webber has had an incredible amount of bad luck from the Italian GP onwards, but in terms of speed in practice has been right up there.
With the possibility of a 3rd place finish in the constructors, Webber will be desperate to score highly in the last races…..only a best priced 4/11 with Paddy Power for the race but is even money with Betfair to finish overall third in the drivers championship. Nico Rosberg is another who can leap up the drivers championship with a good placing here and is good EW value at 14/1 with bet365
