Fulham have a new head coach

Fulham have a new head coach after appointing former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen to work alongside manager Martin Jol. The 49-year-old recently had an abortive spell in charge of Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala and has now opted to team up with fellow Dutchman Jol at Craven Cottage.

I’ve spent many hours talking with Martin Jol and we share a vision of how football should be played. Rene Meulensteen

And Meulensteen is excited by the challenge of trying to help the Cottagers pull clear of relegation danger at the wrong end of the Premier League table. He told his new club’s official website:

“I was impressed by the vision of (chairman) Shahid Khan and (chief executive) Alistair Mackintosh. “I’ve spent many hours talking with Martin Jol and we share a vision of how football should be played and how players should be developed.

“It’s our job to make sure we can bring this vision to life on the pitch for the fans.” The Cottagers are currently in 18th place in the Premier League table after defeats in each of their last three games, including a 4-0 drubbing at Liverpool last weekend.

Their next league outing comes on Saturday 23rd November when they play host to Swansea City, with the corresponding fixture last season ending in a 2-1 win for the Swans.

Fulham are 12/5 to gain a much-needed win, with the draw available at 12/5, while City are 9/1 to repeat their 2-1 success of December 2012.
