KRC Genk v RSC Anderlecht
KRC Genk v RSC Anderlecht action in Belgium tonight in the Pro League, with Anderlecht keen to correct some mixed form which leaves them sitting fourth.
Besnik Hasi’s side have only lost one from five, which will certainly buoy them, but that loss, and a draw, from their last four outings leaves them in the Europa League play-off place.
Their form on the road has been below par in recent weeks, but a win last time out – their first in seven attempts away from the Stade Constant Vanden Stock, will boost them ahead of this trip.
Anderlecht come from a goalless draw against Zulte Waregem on Tuesday evening, but the team has deserved much more out of the game. They had superiority over their opponent, have missed four or five great chances during the game but were simply limited to a goalless draw.
Despite the draw, team has shown great amount of passion, something that they lacked in regular part of the season for a longer period. Still, they remain in the title battle, as the difference from them and league leaders is just three points.
Genk sit bottom of the Pro League group, and are now without a win in five, a run which threatens to seriously derail their season. Indeed, it is largely their home form which has let them down this campaign, and just a single win from 10 at the Cristal Arena underlines just how off-colour they have been on their own patch of late.
Emilio Ferrera saw his side succumb to a 2-0 loss at Club Brugge last time out, and that defeat included their ninth and tenth goals shipped in five outings. Genk seems rather uninterested in these play-offs, as the team comes from a 2:0 defeat away from home against Club Brugge.
The game was pretty much decided in 65th minute when the visitors stood with a man less since their defensive midfielder Kumordzi got red carded and the job was eased to the home side.
They don’t seem very motivated for the play-off stage, as they started it from the bottom position and the difference got only bigger after first four rounds. Having eleven points less than a position that leads to Europa League, they will surely use rest of the games to build up their team for the next season and will invest in future.
Midfielder Kumordzi (30/3) is suspended for this game, with striker De Ceulaer (21/1) and central defender Kara (26/0) being sidelined with injuries.
However, expect a much improved performance from the home side who have nothing to lose today as palyers look to secure their futures for next season…….
