Hennessy Gold Cup 2014: Leopardstown
LAST INSTALMENT triumphed against the odds in the Hennessy Gold Cup from fans’ favourite Tidal Bay, who came home a distant second.
Philip Fenton trained, who had just watched stable star The Tullow Tank’s defeat in the Deloitte Novice Hurdle, Last Instalment took up the running early on and produced a superb round of jumping to secure the prize for jockey Brian O’Connell.
Looking ahead to The Gold Cup, the lack of creditable rivals to Bobs Worth and Silviniaco Conti in the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup has resulted in prices for Last Instalment varying between 6-1 and 14-1 for the race. He is a general 10-1 chance.
Wearing the second colours of owner Michael O’Leary, indicating that retained rider Bryan Cooper had decided against riding him instead preferring First Lieutenant, Last Instalment found himself in front as the seven runners dawdled in the opening stages.
O’Connell took the opportunity with both hands and set about producing a remarkable round of jumping on Last Instalment.

It’s always a bit of bright news when a bookmaker gets hit hard in the pocket, and there was a massive horse racing win last Monday, one which Barney Curley would have been proud of. This was a jaw-droppingly priced seven horse accumulator, which returned the lucky punter nearly £40,000 off a £2 stake from Paddy Power.

Wolverhampton 16.00……the progressive BIG BAZ is a justified but short priced 1/1 with Skybet and Bill Muir’s charge should defy a 5lb rise for a cosy win at this track last month and remain unbeaten. For value we look to David Simcock’s, Stasio at around 8/1 whch at least repreents some EW value. Well Painted and The Lock Master have both come up short off their current marks and don’t look a threat here?
