Horse Racing Selections – 7th August 2021

Saturday’s flat racing comes from Ascot, Haydock, Ayr and HQ.

As mentioned yesterday, there’s not a whole load going to post in our targeted races. However, the Haydock (15.00) looks like it will stay a 3 paying slot races and a couple of trackers going there.

Outside of that leaves a couple at Ayr with the pick being the (18.55). That has a few short priced lumpers going and preference would be for Mike Smith’s Royal Countess. They haven’t had her that long and found improvement already. Back up to the 10 was a ready winner LTO and should be set for another decent showing at around wipes yer face 9/2.

Disappointment yesterday with the Brighton race finishing a 3 paying slot with Minhaaj 4th home. Follower’s of the ‘faux pas’ may well have had the 3yo Mr Trevor who lost maiden status.

There’s a cracking day of handicaps at Haydock tomorrow, albeit could run heavy with the current forecast here in the North West.

Today’s notes are below and back in the morning around 9.00am.

For those on the new 2021/22 £1k to £10k Annual Challenge, the bank is £1037.61 and current full stakes, unless advised, £12.90 EW

The 2021 Turf bank currently stands at +42 pts to 1pt EW stakes with over a 38% win/place rate.

The 2020/21 All Weather bank ended at +144 pts to 1pt EW stakes with over a 39% win/place rate.

  1. Posted on yesterdays, by way of thanks.
Sorry as i was out almost all of Friday i just to say thank you to everyone for their comments and figures included – greatly appreciated all round. I have noted what has been said and will give some considered thought as to my best way forward. Have long realised about ‘variance’ and look forward to when it swings back the other way 🙂 Thank you all again for your contributions. John

  2. This is a little off topic (regarding ABW picks) but did anyone see the 17:00 Newmarket race. Those that have some horse racing experience, can anyone tell me what happened to Sir Rumi because I can’t understand?

  3. I am not sure i should be the one commenting on what happened to a horse in a race, as you could put what i know on the back of a postage stamp ( lot more like that on here). However my reading of what happened to Sir Rumi is this. Travelled well and led just over a furlong out. Given a smack with the whip in the right hand, this caused the horse to veer left across the course and allow Classical wave (which was going just as well) to run straight to the line and win fairly comfortably. Sir Rumi is only a three year old so he has plenty of time to grow up to do. Hope that helps.

    • It certainly does help Ian, thank you, its a rational explanation that counters the angle my cognitive bias jumped to which is a possible conspiracy of Jockey/Yard/Track proportion.

I was thinking it may have been something to do with the racing line being to soft, but it looks like CW took a very similar line.
