Today’s Selections

York 17.00

A nice Class 3 10 furlong to end the meeting and a sole tracker out.

Last time we backed FIRST IMPRESSION his run was to bad to be true in the Zetland at Redcar. The only excuse I could give was the quicker going at this one was a real improver last term.

Looking back in hindsight, he’s been a back end of season gelding who signed off 2019 losing his maiden status toughing it out beating Keith Dalgleish’s Clay Regazzoni home.

Kick started 2020 off with a quickening up 10f win off 80 at Redcar and then was noted behind our winner Poet’s Dawn at Ripon being the best of the 3yo’s conceding 7lb to that one. However, he quickly gained recompense NTO with another win at Ayr on an easy surface from a mark of 85.

The easy surfaces seemed to have suited and had a decent hurdling campaign with a best 5th of 14 in an Ascot C2 in the spring.

John Quinn has regular pilot up top and a nice priced 14/1 across the patch and FIVE paying slots this morning to record.

York 17.00 – First Impression (Half Stakes Challenge)

Chelmsford 20.30

BAY OF NAPLES  went in our AW tracker Chelmsford this time last year when running up 2nd here twice in an improving spell showing more of the early promise with Mark Johnston.

We did get tempted in at Chester on the turf but was a drifter on the day and said we would look again when back on this surface. Michael Herrington drops him in grade today with Rhys Clutterbuck taking his allowance.

His trap 7 draw sees him with the most pace from those drawn low and would be no surprise to see him near the head of affairs where racing prominently counts.

The trainer has a decent near 50% place record of late and it’s another nice priced 22/1 across the patch and FOUR paying slots this morning to record.

Chelmsford 20.30 – Bay Of Naples (Half Stakes Challenge)
