Racing News

The Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot has been earmarked as a potential first port of call for Eddie Lynam’s new recruit Moviesta (pictured).

The five-year-old colt is a new face at the Lynam yard, having made the move from Bryan Smart’s stable over the winter and he showed his good health in a workout after racing at the Curragh on Irish 1000 Guineas day.

I think he’s definitely getting to the right place now and hopefully he’ll head for the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot.

Ritchie Fiddes

Connections were delighted with what he showed on Sunday and are targeting next month’s Royal meeting at Ascot as a potential starting point for what they expect to be an exciting season ahead.

Part-owner Ritchie Fiddes says they have been taking things slowly since moving to Lynam’s base in Co Meath.

“We’ve just been taking our time with him since sending him to Eddie’s. There’s no rush, as there are so many races at home and abroad for him later in the year,” said Fiddes.

With Ascot now less than a month away, the Moviesta team are hopeful of being match-fit in time.

Lynam is no stranger to training a great sprinter, with Sole Power set for another big summer, and last year he won the Diamond Jubilee with Slade Power.

Moviesta is 20/1 to win the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, with Due Diligence 10/1 and Lightning Moon 12/1.

“He’s only a five-year-old – he was a very good three-year-old and was knocking on the door in Group One’s last year. I think we’ll have an exciting year with him.” Fiddes concluded.

Today’s Huntingdon Timeform

18.00 At The Races Sky 415 Novices’ Hurdle (4) 2¾m

Timeform Top Rated:
135p 1. TOWERING Nicky Henderson Jeremiah McGrath (3)
134 2. MORE BUCK’S Paul Nicholls Sam Twiston-Davies
117? 3. OFCOURSEWECAN Mark Gillard Tom Cannon

Analyst’s Verdict: Towering made the perfect start to his hurdling career at Fontwell last time, seeing the trip out well in the process, so he gets the nod with the slightly longer trip likely to hold no fears. More Buck’s rates the leading threat now switched back to novice company.

18.30 Sunflower Day Nursery Handicap Chase (4) 2m5f110y

Timeform Top Rated:
130 4. PERFECT TIMING Neil Mulholland Noel Fehily
126p 5. HE’S A BULLY Philip Hobbs Richard Johnson
124§ 2. MOORLANDS JACK Jeremy Scott James Davies

Analyst’s Verdict: Point-winner He’s A Bully made a most encouraging start over fences when runner-up at Uttoxeter this month and will likely take some stopping if building on that back at this more suitable trip. Perfect Timing scaled new heights when last seen in September and may prove a bigger threat than the penalised Bang On Time.

19.00 Independent Racecourses Limited, IRL Novices’ Hurdle (4) 2m1f

Timeform Top Rated:
129 1. ARE THEY YOUR OWN Fergal O’Brien Nick Slatter (5)
112p 9. SHEER POETRY Richard Woollacott Paddy Brennan
106 4. MAZOVIAN Neil Mulholland Mark Quinlan

Analyst’s Verdict: Some interesting hurdle newcomers on show, but Are They Your Own sets a fair standard on his Ludlow success and may be able to use his experience to fend off bumper-winner Dry Ol’Party and the promising filly Sheer Poetry.

19.30 attheraces.com Novices’ Chase (3) 2m110y

Timeform Top Rated:
151p 4. MINELLA PRESENT Neil Mulholland Mark Quinlan
150p 6. UNION SAINT Jimmy Frost Richard Johnson
139+ 5. TOO SCOOPS Richard Woollacott Daryl Jacob

Analyst’s Verdict: A fascinating novice chase in prospect, with Minella Present taken to build on his encouraging debut over fences and get off the mark at the second attempt. Union Saint also showed plenty of promise on debut and is preferred to Dormello Mo for the forecast.

20.00 SIS Streaming Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (5) 2¾m

Timeform Top Rated:
113 7. MIDNIGHT SEQUEL Neil Mulholland Noel Fehily
110+ 2. ANN’S LOTTERY Tim Dennis Kieron Edgar (5)
105 3. MIDNIGHT SAPPHIRE Victor Dartnall Denis O’Regan

Analyst’s Verdict: The unexposed Ann’s Lottery ran well behind a facile next-time-out winner over C&D on handicap bow and gets the vote in the hope she jumps a little better. The in-form Midnight Sequel is feared most ahead of and Kentford Myth.

20.30 Hadden Frost, The Next Chapter Handicap Chase (4) 2m110y

Timeform Top Rated:
117 2. TRUCKIN ALL NIGHT Don Cantillon Denis O’Regan
117 6. THE BAY BANDIT Neil Mulholland Noel Fehily
116 10. MOONLIGHT MAGGIE Tom George Paddy Brennan

Analyst’s Verdict: All But Grey took another step forward when beating No No Cardinal to open his chasing account at Wincanton recently and should give his supporters another decent run for their money in his follow-up bid. Moonlight Maggie, The Bay Bandit and Truckin All Night make up the shortlist.

21.00 newtonabbotracing.com Handicap Hurdle (5) 2m1f

Timeform Top Rated:
110 6. HENRY OLIVER Neil Mulholland Richard Johnson
109 2. CANDELITA Matt Sheppard Mr Stan Sheppard (7)
108 1. LADIES DANCING Chris Down Kevin Jones (7)

Analyst’s Verdict: This will only be Henry Oliver‘s third start for Neil Mulholland, and having shown marked improvement already, he is taken to get off the mark here. Candelita and Cruise In Style look best of the remainder in a modest affair.
