Frankie Dettori has warned not to dismiss the Derby credentials of Dante runner-up JACK HOBBS at Epsom next month.
Dettori partnered Jack Hobbs at York earlier in May when he was readily beaten by another John Gosden trained runner, Golden Horn.
With Jack Hobbs having since been snapped up into the team of Dettori’s former employers Godolphin, the Italian will now be partnering Golden Horn on Derby Day at Epsom.
William Buick gets off the Dante winner to take the ride on Jack Hobbs.
The Dante was a telling factor, but don’t dismiss Jack Hobbs as he is still a good horse.
Frankie Dettori
Both horses and their riders were at Epsom on Tuesday for the Breakfast with the Stars morning ahead of the Derby meeting and, after riding Golden Horn on the famous Downs in a racecourse gallop, Dettori gave his thoughts on the big race.
Dettori will be seeking to win the Classic for just the second time in his career but he is wary of his former sparring partner.
“The Dante was a telling factor, but don’t dismiss Jack Hobbs as he is still a good horse. I think that a mile-and-a-half is definitely in his compass and he is a much more raw horse than Golden Horn,” the jockey said.
He does however feel that Golden Horn will be well suited by the hullaballoo of Derby Day on the Downs.
“Golden Horn handled the track OK. He is a very laid-back character and he needs a crowd to rev him up. He will be a better horse on the race day,” he added.
Betting…
Golden Horn is currently 13/8 to win the Epsom Derby, with Jack Hobbs at 6/1 .

Tonight’s Sandown Timeform
18.00 Cantor Fitzgerald Equities Handicap (Qualifier) (5) 1¼m7y
Timeform Top Rated
92 10. CORREGGIO Micky Hammond P. J. McDonald
91 13. THE CASH GENERATOR Ralph Smith Hector Crouch (7)
90+ 4. RATHEALY David Pipe Mikey Ennis (5)
Analyst’s Verdict: Micky Hammond has been on a winning spree of late and Correggio, who should strip fitter following his reappearance at Pontefract, is taken to uphold that trend. The step back up in trip looks a good move and the 5-y-o has conditions in his favour. The Cash Generator has low mileage and heads a long list of dangers, which also includes Dandy, Derulo, Rathealy and Hallingham.
18.35 Cantor Fitzgerald Debt Capital Markets National Stakes (Listed) (1) 5f6y
Timeform Top Rated
116p 7. STEADY PACE Saeed bin Suroor James Doyle
110 6. SILVER WINGS David Evans John Egan
108p 1. AREEN Kevin Ryan Jamie Spencer
Analyst’s Verdict: Plenty of potential Royal Ascot types on show headed by Steady Pace, who looked a colt of huge potential when striking on debut at that Berkshire venue. King of Rooks, who was third in the maiden won by the selection at Ascot, was impressive at Newbury recently and could emerge as the main danger, though Areen, Case Key and Tawdheef are all unknown quantities.
19.10 Cantor Fitzgerald Investment Trusts Henry Ii Stakes (Group 3) (1) 2m78y
Timeform Top Rated
128 4. SIMENON W. P. Mullins Ryan Moore
127 3. FORGOTTEN VOICE Nicky Henderson Jamie Spencer
126+ 7. VENT DE FORCE Hughie Morrison Richard Hughes
Analyst’s Verdict: Progressive young stayers Vent de Force and Trip To Paris could be the pair to focus on, with marginal preference for the former given he’s proven at this level. Simenon has the best form so is an obvious danger if fully tuned after an absence.
19.45 Cantor Fitzgerald Research Brigadier Gerard Stakes (Group 3) (1) 1¼m7y
Timeform Top Rated
138 2. TRYSTER Charlie Appleby William Buick
137 4. EAGLE TOP John Gosden Frankie Dettori
132 1. ARAB SPRING Sir Michael Stoute Ryan Moore
Analyst’s Verdict: A very strong renewal. Tryster has been awesome on the AW this year and his turn of foot may prove decisive with no obvious front runners in the field. Arab Spring and Eagle Top are potentially Group 1 standard, while dual Group 3 C&D-winner Western Hymn can’t be underestimated.
20.15 Cantor Fitzgerald Corporate Finance Heron Stakes (Listed) (1) 1m14y
Timeform Top Rated
125 3. EMIRATES SKYCARGO Charlie Appleby William Buick
121 6. JOHNNY BARNES John Gosden Frankie Dettori
117 8. SECRET BRIEF Charlie Appleby James Doyle
Analyst’s Verdict: Godolphin hold a strong hand and it looks significant that Buick has chosenEmirates Skycargo, who was unlucky not to win a Newmarket handicap last time, though it will be interesting to see what the market makes of Consort and Johnny Barnes ahead of their respective returns.
20.45 Cantor Fitzgerald Trackers Quants Whitsun Cup (Handicap) (3) 1m14y
Timeform Top Rated
113p 5. HEISMAN Olly Stevens Andrea Atzeni
113+ 1. SPA’S DANCER James Eustace Graham Lee
112 10. SPIRITUAL STAR Anthony Carson William Carson
Analyst’s Verdict: In contrast to the majority of his rivals, Heisman has low mileage and, raised just 4 lb for his victory at Lingfield when last seen in November, he is taken to make a winning turf debut. Spa’s Dancer goes well here and has to be feared on the back of his encouraging effort at Chester, while Secret Art appears to be working his way back to form and is an appealing each-way option.
