Trainer Tom Dascombe has yet to make up his mind where Dubai Gold Cup winner Brown Panther will go next but he admits the ‘dream race’ to win would be Ascot’s Gold Cup in June.
Owned by Michael Owen the seven-year-old was much too good for his 14 rivals at Meydan on Saturday.
He careered away from the field on the turn for home and passed the post with a comfortable three-and-a-quarter-lengths to spare under Richard Kingscote as last year’s Irish St Leger winner gave what his trainer felt was a career best performance in Dubai.
“We were obviously delighted with him the other night. He ran right up to his mark and I think it’s probably as good a performance as he’s ever put in,
“If I had a dream race to win it would be the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, so whether another flight to Japan would be good for his preparation for that would be open to question, so we’ll just have to see,” TomDascombe
Brown Panther has been much travelled in recent times after an unsuccessful journey to the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita in November.
Dascombe said connections were considering going to Japan for their next race, but he confirmed the travel involved would be likely to hinder any bid for success at Royal Ascot.
BROWN PANTHER is 8/1 to win the Ascot Gold Cup, with Forgotten Rules 7/2 and Hartnell 16/1.
