Manchester City v Viktoria Plzen: Preview 27th November
Yaya Toure has challenged Manchester City to break Chelsea’s Premier League record of an amazing 103 goals in a season.
The Ivory Coast midfielder, who has already bagged six goals himself this term, believes Manuel Pellegrini’s team have it in them to beat that benchmark, which was set in the 2009-10 season.
The six goals City smashed past Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday took their league tally to an incredible 34 from their first 12 games.
The Blues will now be hoping the goals continue to flow on Wednesday night when they host Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League.
We know if we are to win the title again we have to win our away games.
City may have already qualified for the next stages of the competition, but more goals will only reinforce Toure’s belief that the records will start to tumble.
Toure insists: “I hope we can beat it (Chelsea’s record). We have the strikers, we have fantastic players here. We play very good football at home.
“At home we are very prolific but away is more difficult. We know if we are to win the title again we have to win our away games.”
Pellegrini is set to ring the changes against Plzen, with Edin Dzeko, Joe Hart, Aleksandar Kolarov all pencilled in to start.
Goalkeeper Joe Hart will start Manchester City’s Champions League group match against Viktoria Plzen on Wednesday, says boss Manuel Pellegrini.
England number one Hart has not played for City since being replaced by Costel Pantilimon for their Premier League game against Norwich on 2 November.
Captain Vincent Kompany is back in training with the squad but is not ready to return from a thigh injury.
Striker Stevan Jovetic and forward David Silva (both calf) are sidelined.
City have already qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League.
Hart has missed the last five City games, but Pellegrini has denied that the 26-year-old goalkeeper will leave the club in January.
