Today’s Newbury Timeform…

13.25 John Hills Maiden Stakes (4) 1¼m6y

Top Rated
97p 11. MILE HIGH Charles Hills Jim Crowley
91 9. HEARTLESS Andrew Balding David Probert
77 4. LEONARDO James Fanshawe Tony Hamilton

Analyst’s Verdict: Mile High impressed with the way she travelled for a long way in a listed event last time and should take a bit of stopping back in maiden company over a shorter trip. The booking of William Buick for the Ralph Beckett newcomer Desdichado suggests he could play a part on debut, while Andrew Balding’s Heartless was a little disappointing at Doncaster but had shown promise over C&D prior to that.

14.00 Al Basti Equiworld EBF Breeding Winners Fillies’ Handicap (2) 1m

Top Rated
105p 1. REKDHAT Roger Varian Jim Crowley
104 6. VOLUNTEER POINT Mick Channon Charles Bishop
103 2. SPIRIT RAISER James Fanshawe Hayley Turner

Analyst’s Verdict: Sealife looked potentially very useful when overcoming inexperience to make a winning start to her career at Windsor recently and can remain unbeaten, but there are a few possible dangers in what looks quite a hot race, headed by Roger Varian’s Rekdhat and David Simcock’s Cartier.

14.35 JLT Stakes (Steventon) (Listed) (1) 1¼m6y

Top Rated
128 4. FIRE FIGHTING Mark Johnston Silvestre De Sousa
125p 5. CONSORT Sir Michael Stoute Frankie Dettori
125 8. MUSTADEEM Brian Meehan Sean Levey

Analyst’s Verdict: Fire Fighting has produced some really smart efforts in top handicaps this term and might be worth chancing to upset Consort, who will likely be a short price on the back of an excellent third in the St James’s Palace. Intilaaq failed to make an impact in the 2000 Guineas but his demolition of a big field here prior to that is still fresh in the memory and he can get his career back on track now.

15.10 Al Basti Equiworld Hackwood Stakes (Group 3) (1) 6f8y

Top Rated
127 5. PORTAMENTO Charlie Appleby William Buick
125 3. WATCHABLE David O’Meara Daniel Tudhope
123 1. AEOLUS Ed Walker George Baker

Analyst’s Verdict: The form Portamento showed when landing a Chester handicap last weekend is good enough to see him win at this level and he’s selected in the hope this doesn’t come too quickly for him. Aeolus has a penalty for his win at Newcastle but might still provide the main threat ahead of David O’Meara’s Watchable.

15.45 Weatherbys Super Sprint (2) 5f34y

Top Rated
121p 17. EXCESSABLE Tim Easterby Duran Fentiman
116 4. SOAPY AITKEN Clive Cox Paul Hanagan
113p 15. BELVOIR BAY Richard Hannon Kieran O’Neill

Analyst’s Verdict: Tim Easterby has another strong contender in Excessable, who confirmed he’s a very useful colt when just edged out by a more battle-hardened rival at Beverley recently and looks the clear pick of the weights. The Hannon yard is sure to have a say and Belvoir Bay and Great Page look a couple of likely types, while Soapy Aitken also has the form to go close.

16.20 Malone Roofing Handicap (2) 7f

Top Rated
123 5. ROYAL SEAL Sir Michael Stoute Frankie Dettori
120 7. CAPTAIN LARS Ken Cunningham-Brown Non Runner
120 9. STRONG CHEMISTRY Charlie Appleby William Buick

Analyst’s Verdict: Royal Seal has done little wrong in 2 starts this season, despite finishing second on each occasion, and recorded a personal-best in a handicap over this trip at Haydock last time. She can gain a deserved victory. Mister Universe and Strong Chemistry head the list of dangers.

16.55 Grundon Recycle Handicap (4) 2m

Top Rated
103 9. MEDBURN CUTLER Paul Henderson Paul Hanagan
101 2. WORDINESS David Evans Silvestre De Sousa
101 4. SUNNY FUTURE Malcolm Saunders Jim Crowley

Analyst’s Verdict: Medburn Cutler has been in fine form recently, landing a brace of handicaps at Chepstow, and left the impression he had something in hand when successful there last time. He is taken to land the hat-trick. In a competitive-looking affair there are plenty of dangers, with Wordiness and Thunder Pass topping the list.
