Preston North End v Walsall

Preston North end v Walsall Preview

Wednesday evening sees Johnstone’s Paint Trophy action at Deepdale with Preston North End v Walsall.

The Lillywhite’s see Jordan Hugill and Joe Garner ruled out for their Northern Area final with Walsall. Hugill is still out after suffering a knee injury in the 3-1 defeat to Walsall back in September. Garner is also out with his own knee injury Grayson’s side.

Sam Mantom is Walsall’s only absence for the Deepdale trip, another with a long-term knee issue but Jordan Cook returns after withdrawing on Saturday’s illness when missing the Coventry defeat.

The Saddler’s have never been to Wembley in their 127-year history.

  • Walsall are unbeaten away from home in five matches, having not lost since their FA Cup first-round replay defeat at Shrewsbury on 18 November.
  • Preston have only lost once at home this season, although so had MK Dons before the Saddlers went there in their last away match on 28 December.
  • Walsall are 13th in League One, 10 places (and 15 points) behind third-placed Preston
