Racing News Ian Williams

Back to betting action today with our first selection of the week and 3 from our Irish correspondent.

Kempton 17.20…..the presence of two seriously short priced horses in Miguel Grau and Squire Osbaldeston means there should be value elsewhere for EW opportunities.

Busatto has an interesting pedigree and could be anything coming here off the back of just 4 runs and should be thereabouts with an EW saver at a best 6/1 with SeannieMac.

However, best value maybe about veteran STEVIE THUNDER. The Graham Lee/ Ian Williams (pictured) combo are in form and the horse has been placed or better in over 50{70aeb3532cb26dbe277d25ea128ebb74de84b9bd22e1583b0eb1b73768e061f6} of his runs.

The negative of not winning at the distance is concerning but at a best 16/1 with SeannieMac we will make a case for a small EW investment.

Cheltenham Latest……..

Gold Cup hope Cue Card has been ruled out of the Festival due to injury, with trainer Colin Tizzard hoping his horse will be fit for a Grand National tilt.

Cue Card won the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham just under 12 months ago and had been expected to challenge hard for the Gold Cup this time around.

He hasn’t got any better and you can’t be going to Cheltenham 90 per cent.

However, Tizzard has confirmed that his charge is still struggling with a slight problem and will not risk him at the National Hunt showpiece meeting, instead looking ahead to a potential Grand National outing at Aintree later in the year.

“Unfortunately he has pulled muscles behind and he won’t be running at the Cheltenham Festival,” Tizzard said.

“We first noticed it last week. It was only a small thing then and it is only small now, but we cantered him this morning and he is still not right. “He hasn’t got any better and you can’t be going to Cheltenham 90 per cent.”

Favourite for the Gold Cup is reigning champion Bobs Worth, whose trainer Nicky Henderson extended his sympathy to Tizzard and his team.

Henderson, who himself has had to rule stable star Sprinter Sacre out of Cheltenham in recent days, said: “That’s awful for them and it just goes to show it’s a bloody difficult game. I’m very sorry for them.”

In the absence of Cue Card, Bobs Worth is 7/4 to win the Gold Cup for a second successive year, with Silviniaco Conti 3/1 and Harry Topper 20/1.

Meanwhile, Tizzard was remaining cautious over Cue Card running in the Grand National, adding: “We need to get him right first.”
