Today’s racing news features an old favourite in Sprinter Sacre who has been off the racecourse for over a year.
Barry Geraghty has given his thoughts on the racecourse workout Sprinter Sacre had at Newbury and described the move as “brave”.
The former champion chaser was having his first public outing in a year since being pulled up in the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton with what transpired to be an irregular heartbeat.
Geraghty hailed the brave decision of trainer to Nicky Henderson to put Sprinter Sacre on public display for such a vital piece of work and the jockey felt his old partner was as good as ever.
“It was a brave move by Nicky Henderson and one that was fully rewarded because I walked off the track absolutely delighted – the Sprinter of old was back,” Geraghty wrote in his blog.
Betting….
After his Newbury workout, Sprinter Sacre is currently priced 2/1 in the win and each-way betting for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham in March.
He is due to have his first competitive run of the season in the Clarence House Chase at Ascot in January and Geraghty is confident he will be back to his brilliant best.
“There might have been a few gasps from the crowd when he was a bit exuberant and left his hind legs behind at the ditch but that just pleased me because he came up a stride early which showed he was back to himself,” he added. “It was a brilliant indication of how well in himself he was.”
