Richard Hannon bows out of racing officially today…..surprisingly he’ll be watching at home with three final runners at Lingfield.
Hannon set a record of 235 winners in signing off with a fifth trainers’ title, is not expecting to go out with a bang from two runners in the nursery and a handicap topweight.
“The two in the nursery have a small chance but they are low-key runners at this time of year,”
Lions Arch in the 7f Ladbrokes Handicap (2.30) will go into the form book as the last runner under his name, with son Richard officially on the licence from Wednesday.
Hannon, 68, added: “Nothing will change and there will not be much running early in the new year as usual.”
Hannon remains excited about a new intake of yearlings that will keep the team busy as well as “a lot of nice three-year-olds”.
His son was dealt a blow on Monday with the loss of unbeaten Piping Rock, who was set to be a first Godolphin-owned contender for the team, but he still has Group 1-winning Toormore to lead the way.
He could have his first runner at Wolverhampton on Saturday with unraced Unscripted, who is entered in the Ladbrokes Median Auction Maiden.
No joy yesterday with our two selections running unplaced…..let’s hope we can see New Years Eve out with a bang!!!!!
Onto the flat at Lingfield…..
Lingfield 14.00…….MUNSARIM is friendless in the market due to a very poor showing in 2013. However he has 6 wins from 17 on the going and 5 wins from 6 in this grade. Lee Carter, his trainer is 2 wins from 9 in the last 14 days, with jock Amir Quinn……2 wins from 4 rides!!!!
All in all the statistics point to a small EW at a best priced 25/1 with Skybet.
Lingfield 14.30…..Richard Hannon is cool on the chances (see above) of his final career runner Lions Arch, however Richard Hannon’s colt was only beaten three lengths here on his first start since May and should be sharper for that run. Ignore the master of Lingfield at your peril and is a best priced EW value 8/1 with bet365.
However, Hayley Turner’s mount COMMANCHE was looked to be given an easy ride at Wolverhampton last time out and can feature here. 2 wins from 6, both over C&D looks another good small EW bet at a price of 22/1 with Skybet.
