Today’s Racing News
We’ve just got one selection to consider today from today’s Sandown card…….but first today’s news feature for nest weekend’s action features trainer Ed Lynam.
Lynam could launch a two-pronged attack as he seeks to win the Darley July Cup at Newmarket for a second successive time on 11th July.
Slade Power comfortably justified favouritism to win the 6f Group 1 contest 12 months ago and Lynam says star-sprinter Sole Power could join Anthem Alexander in targeting the race this time around.
Sole Power will only take part should the ground come up firm according to his trainer.
“If the ground comes up lightning quick he would run in the July Cup. His Derby now is the Nunthorpe (at York) but he needs races to keep him ticking over and he ran well in the race a couple of years ago when he was unlucky,” Ed Lynam
Anthem Alexander looks certain to head for Newmarket following her effort in the inaugural Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last month.
Lynam felt there was plenty to like about the run behind Muhaarar on that occasion although he was at a loss to explain why the Starspangledbanner filly ran out of puff have travelled ominously through the race.
“She travelled like the best horse in the race, she was the last off the bridle, and I thought she was coming to win the race. But I don’t know what happened after that,
“She’ll have the Australian horse (Brazen Beau) and Charlie Hills’ horse Muhaarar, and all the top sprinters to beat in the July Cup but we might tweak the tactics a little bit and let her take her chance at Newmarket,”
Brazen Beau hopes to make up for the disappointment of narrowly missing out in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot by winning the July Cup.

Today’s feature race….
Sandown 16.30…..
Sandown has a sharp turn into the straight and it’s very rare that horses go flat out on the round course. Consequently it suits horses that are a ‘hold up’ type of finisher rather than those who tend to try and dictate from the front.
The short dash in negates any weight advantage held by the lower weighted horses and we often find that the ‘better’ horses at the top of the handicap gain an advantage.
Looking at today’s race, right at the top of the handicap…SPA’S DANCER is just 1lb higher than his last winning mark.
He’s a definite hold up type and looked as though coming to form when seen making good late headway over a shorter trip at Nottingham.
He has quality top apprentice Tom Marquand up top who takes 5lb off and despite being an ‘ageing’ sort gets the vote here and a best 15/2 with SkyBet this morning.

Today’s Sandown Timeform…
2.20 Psigma Investment Management Palacegate Touch Handicap (3) 5f6y
Timeform Top Rated:
108 7. SLIP SLIDING AWAY Peter Hedger Tom Marquand (5)
107 1. MASAMAH Marco Botti Ryan Moore
107 4. SHINGLE Ed de Giles David Probert
Analyst’s Verdict:
In a tricky-looking opener, the vote goes to Slip Sliding Away, who showed he’s effective at this trip when posting a good third at Goodwood on his penultimate start, and races off the same mark after another creditable run at Newmarket. Recent Brighton winner Midlander is feared most, with Shingle next-best.
2.50 Racing UK Day Pass Dragon Stakes (Listed) (1) 5f6y
Timeform Top Rated:
110p 4. SOAPY AITKEN Clive Cox Ryan Moore
109 3. RIFLESCOPE Mark Johnston James Doyle
102 6. PROMISED MONEY Edward Lynam Richard Hughes
Analyst’s Verdict:
Soapy Aitken was unable to find the necessary improvement to play a serious part in the finish of the Windsor Castle last month, but he remains with potential and looks the one to beat from the ideal stall. Riflescope is the obvious form danger on his Norfolk run, though Ejaazah is open to progress.
3.20 Irish Champions Weekend EBF Maiden Stakes (5) 7f16y
Timeform Top Rated:
88p 2. CARTAGO John Gosden Ryan Moore
87p 6. TAQWAA Richard Hannon Paul Hanagan
86 4. MINIATURIST Mark Johnston James Doyle
Analyst’s Verdict:
Cartago fared best of the newcomers when third on debut over this trip at Newmarket 2 weeks ago and with progress on the cards, he should be pretty tough to beat. Taqwaa found only one too good on his first run so has to be feared, while Goldenfield and Viscount Barfield are a pair of sure-fire improvers.
3.55 Ambant Gala Stakes (Listed) (1) 1¼m7y
Timeform Top Rated:
127p 5. PROVENANCE Sir Michael Stoute Ryan Moore
124 1. FATTSOTA David O’Meara Richard Hughes
123 3. THA’IR Saeed bin Suroor James Doyle
Analyst’s Verdict:
Provenance really caught the eye in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot, finishing with a flourish after not getting a clear run, and with further progress likely, she can make her mark in this listed race. Tha’ir performed well when last seen in Meydan, and is preferred to Fattsota for the forecast.
4.30 racinguk.com/daypass Handicap (3) 1¼m7y
Timeform Top Rated:
105 9. TOM HARK Richard Hannon Pat Dobbs
104 5. LONDON CITIZEN Chris Wall Ted Durcan
103 4. I’M FRAAM GOVAN George Baker James Doyle
Analyst’s Verdict:
Tom Hark shaped encouragingly in his first 2 starts this year, and a better showing can be expected now following his return from a gelding operation here 3 weeks ago. Suddyan looks most interesting on handicap debut for his in-form yard, and he is feared most, while Spa’s Dancer can go well now returned to this venue.
5.05 100{70aeb3532cb26dbe277d25ea128ebb74de84b9bd22e1583b0eb1b73768e061f6} RUK Profits Back To Racing Handicap (4) 1¾m
Timeform Top Rated:
95 12. SINGULAR QUEST Ralph Beckett Paul Hanagan
94 1. VIKING STORM Harry Dunlop Steve Drowne
93 2. SPICE FAIR Mark Usher Liam Keniry
Analyst’s Verdict:
Munstead Pride showed improved form upped to 12f on his reappearence, and with the prospect of more to come at this even longer trip, he looks the one to side with in this competitive handicap. There are dangers aplenty, but Singular Quest and Akavit are feared most, in a race where the 3-y-o’s can dominate.
