Saturday Newsletter – 12th January 2019

Friday members selection, Poperinghe Ginger was heavily backed into 9/4 from the 13/2 we took and ‘hit the crossbar’. Graham McPherson’s charge was just a head runner up to the Skelton’s strong favourite we highlighted in the morning post.

Must be the drying weather because the number of runners is dwindling by the day looking at Saturday there’s just a couple of races to consider 🙁

Therefore we’re having a rare excursion to C1/C2 today for our two member selections.

Today’s Selections

Kempton 14.40

A very rare excursion into C1 with the Lanzarote – but on a day of substandard c3 and below we’ll take our seat in front of the box and follow the hopes of an improver out of that grade who looks to have a decent shout at double digit odds.

The only tracker we have out today is AND THE NEW who caught the eye last winter in a couple of C4 Novices. LTO he ran behind Lisp at Fontwell suffering a bit of interference in a race that has thrown up good winners since.

That one now rates 145 following a subsequent run at Ascot behind Mohaayed where he also made a mistake.

He also looks well in against Doux Pretender on the running in one of those novices at Donny and being a strong front runner, Daryl Jacob looks an excellent booking based on his front running scores.

Despite up two grades he could be under the radar and the best 12/1 with Betfair with FOUR paying places looks a tad on the generous side – hopefully 🙂

Kempton 14.40 – And The New

Warwick 15.35

KEEPER HILL is a confirmed hurdler and ran to the mark at Cheltenham LTO. Warren Greatrix was well chuffed about that last run and skips a potential later Musselburgh meeting to try his hand in this Cheltenham Pertemps qualifier.

He will find the extra bit of cut to his liking today and with many of these looking at future engagements over the sticks, should be in the mix.

There’s a best wipes yer face 9/2 across the board about him this morning.

Warwick 15.35 – Keeper Hill

12.40 Trial Racing TV For Free Now Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (4) 2m

Timeform Top Rated:
120 11. MERCER’S TROOP Dan Skelton Harry Skelton
119 8. DYLIEV Caroline Bailey James Bowen
118 7. STAR OF RORY John Groucott Lee Edwards

Analyst’s Verdict:
Mercer’s Troop has a fair bit of scope from his current mark mindful of his Flat exploits and the way he shaped at Plumpton last time suggests he’s in the sort of form to take advantage. He’s a confident choice ahead of last-time-out winner Texan Nomad and the relatively unexposed Percy Prosecco.

1.15 racingtv.com Edward Courage Cup Handicap Chase (3) 2m54y

Timeform Top Rated:
148p 7. GENEROUS DAY Henry Oliver James Davies
147 5. MOVIE LEGEND Lucy Wadham Richard Johnson
146§ 2. BRIGHT NEW DAWN Olly Murphy Aidan Coleman

Analyst’s Verdict:
Generous Day has taken really well to chasing and can make it third time lucky in this sphere with the drop back to this trip sure to suit. Reliable pair Movie Legend and Huntsman Son can fill the places.

1.50 McCoy Contractors 2019 Construction News Awards Finalist Hampton Novices’ Chase (Listed) (1) 3m

Timeform Top Rated:
164 1. ROCKY’S TREASURE Kim Bailey David Bass
159p 3. SECRET INVESTOR Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden
158p 4. WHITE MOON Colin Tizzard Tom Scudamore

Analyst’s Verdict:
Rocky’s Treasure has been most impressive since being switched to chasing, jumping soundly when making it 4 wins from his 5 starts in a Doncaster Grade 2 last month. He can put his experience to good use and concede weight all round. Smart-hurdler Ok Corral is also very interesting on the back of his easy Plumpton chase debut success and feared most.

2.25 Ballymore Leamington Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) (1) 2m5f

Timeform Top Rated:
157p 7. TIDAL FLOW Philip Hobbs Richard Johnson
155p 6. STONEY MOUNTAIN Henry Daly Sam Twiston-Davies
152p 3. BIRCHDALE Nicky Henderson Barry Geraghty

Analyst’s Verdict:
A winner between the Flags, Birchdale justified market support and looked a good prospect as he made a winning start in a C&D maiden last month, encouragingly putting distance between himself and the rest late on. He looks sure to do better and gets the nod. Tidal Flow is of a very similar ilk though, and rates a lead danger, whist Beakstown may represent some value amongst the remainder.

3.00 McCoy Contractors Civil Engineering Classic Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (1) 3m5f54y

Timeform Top Rated:
171 1. UN TEMPS POUR TOUT David Pipe Tom Scudamore
170p 3. STEP BACK Mark Bradstock David Bass
169 11. DUEL AT DAWN Alex Hales Kielan Woods

Analyst’s Verdict:
Step Back should be all the sharper with his reappearance behind him and can get back on the up with the cheekpieces he wore to such good effect at Sandown last spring back in place. Nigel Twiston-Davies pair Cogry and Calett Mad head the dangers along with last year’s winner Milansbar.

3.35 Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (Qualifier) (2) 3m1f

Timeform Top Rated:
162 2. FIRST ASSIGNMENT Ian Williams Tom Scudamore
161 3. KEEPER HILL Warren Greatrex Harry Teal (5)
160 6. OH LAND ABLOOM Neil King Jeremiah McGrath

Analyst’s Verdict:
First Assignment failed to meet market expectations at Haydock in November but he’s been given a break since and can get back on the up for his excellent yard. Keeper Hill must enter the reckoning after running up to his best at Cheltenham last time, with Lungarno Palace and Notwhatiam others capable of having a say.

4.05 Racing TV Free For A Month ‘Newcomers’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat (5) 2m

Timeform Top Rated:
No ratings for this race

Analyst’s Verdict:
Honourmission won’t lack for speed if his pedigree is any guide, and representing a stable with an excellent record in this sphere, he has a lot going for him on paper. With no form to go on the market will be revealing, but Millstone and Frau Georgia are feared most at this stage.

Today’s Bets……..

Good luck if you’re going with our 1.25% EW selections today….

Kempton 14.40 – And The New

Warwick 15.35 – Keeper Hill

(Current stakes are £10.59 EW for those backing the 1.25% EW on the £1k to £10k)
