12.40 JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle (Prestbury) (Grade 2) (1) 2m87y
Timeform Top Rated:
156p 5. MONTESTREL Mrs Jane Williams Lizzie Kelly
155p 2. QUEL DESTIN Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden
152p 1. CRACKER FACTORY Alan King Daryl Jacob
Analyst’s Verdict:
Montestrel looked a potentially useful recruit in running down Quel Destin late on at Chepstow last month, and on that evidence, looks capable of making his mark at this higher level. Never Adapt is a highly interesting recruit from France, having joined powerful connections who introduced Apple’s Shakira in this race 12 months ago. Quel Destin and Cracker Factory are others to consider.
1.15 mallardjewellers.com Novices’ Chase (2) 3m80y
Timeform Top Rated:
165P 2. THE WORLDS END Tom George A. P. Heskin
163 6. THEATRE TERRITORY Warren Greatrex Mr Sam Waley-Cohen
156p 1. MINELLA AWARDS Harry Fry Noel Fehily
Analyst’s Verdict:
The Worlds End has the potential to take high rank among this season’s staying novice chasers and can build on his impressive winning start in this discipline at Chepstow last month. Recent Aintree scorer Minella Awards could perhaps be the one to give him most to do, although Theatre Territory ended last season with a couple of placed efforts in top-end handicaps and also merits respect.
1.50 BetVictor.com Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (1) 3m3f71y
Timeform Top Rated:
177 12. THE YOUNG MASTER Neil Mulholland Harry Reed (3)
173 13. LOOKING WELL Nicky Richards Brian Hughes
172 3. PERFECT CANDIDATE Fergal O’Brien Paddy Brennan
Analyst’s Verdict:
Singlefarmpayment goes well fresh and boasts a solid record at this course. With The Young Master unlikely to go to post following his exertions here on Friday, Tom George’s charge earns the vote ahead of Vicente, who was narrowly outpointed in this race 12 months ago. Calett Mad is also feared, along with the progressive Sharp Response and 2015 Gold Cup hero Coneygree.
2.25 BetVictor Gold Cup Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (1) 2½m44y
Timeform Top Rated:
175+ 6. KALONDRA Neil Mulholland Noel Fehily
173p 5. RATHER BE Nicky Henderson Jeremiah McGrath
172p 4. BENATAR Gary Moore Jamie Moore
Analyst’s Verdict:
Kalondra has long since threatened to win a race of this nature, and with conditions likely to be in his favour, is fancied to enhance the fine record of second-season chasers in this race. Rather Be and Mister Whitaker look obvious threats, while Movewiththetimes is another who has the ability to be involved at a bigger price.
3.00 Regulatory Finance Solutions Handicap Hurdle (Listed) (1) 2m7f208y
Timeform Top Rated:
156§ 9. ANTEROS Sophie Leech Sean Houlihan (5)
154§ 10. BUCKLE STREET Martin Keighley Harry Stock (5)
153p 2. BOYHOOD Tom George Paddy Brennan
Analyst’s Verdict:
First Assignment landed a gamble on his return here last month and has the potential to progress further for his excellent yard now stepping up to 3m. Weebill and Boyhood are a couple of other unexposed types to consider.
3.30 BetVictor Intermediate Handicap Hurdle (2) 2m5f
Timeform Top Rated:
147 14. SPEEDO BOY Ian Williams Tom O’Brien
146 12. CHRISTMAS IN APRIL Colin Tizzard Harry Cobden
145+ 10. AYE RIGHT Harriet Graham Callum Bewley
Analyst’s Verdict:
Speedo Boy didn’t look a complete natural over hurdles last autumn, but he gets his mark from outings around 2m and there’s a very good chance that this useful Flat stayer will take off now tackling this sort of trip. Westend Story, Lygon Rock and Point of Principle head the opposition.
4.00 Karndean Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat (Listed) (1) 2m87y
Timeform Top Rated:
130 12. ROYAL ILLUSION W. P. Mullins D. E. Mullins
122+ 4. DANSE IDOL Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden
122 13. STACEY SUE Alex Hales Noel Fehily
Analyst’s Verdict:
A big field of promising fillies/mares but still hard to see past Royal Illusion who created a good impression when making it 2-2 at Cork recently and can take the next step up the ladder in her stride. Danse Idol sports the same colours as last year’s winner Posh Trish and could be the main threat after a promising second at Punchestown in January. Mrs Hyde and Mega Yeats complete the shortlist.
