Saturday Newsletter – 23rd February

It’s 888SPORT Chase Day at Kempton Park that is the featured Timeform below. There’s some decent looking cards with quite a few of these obviously bound for The Cheltenham Festival.

Our only tracker there is a rather short priced lumper going in the (16.10). Another Crick was noted at Southwell in early December when finishing off the race well after a hold up ride. We’d hoped for a price on next appearance but unfortunately was a lumping 2/1 at Newbury at the end of December. He benefited from running close up and won with relative ease looking as though he would benefit from a step up in trip that his pedigree says he should. Again it’s one for the lumpers with a best 9/4 on offer 🙁

At Newcastle the feature is the (14.40) C2 Eider Chase and our ex-gaffer TJH has the market leader out in VICENTE who looks like another one he’s priming for a Grand National tilt at some stage. He’s already a dual Scottish National winner who tends to come in to his own in the spring months He’s now back on 146, which is his last and highest winning rating and this could well be his target for this season. The yard are in outstanding form and the better ground has come good at the right time – we’ll be making a members play with him today at wipes yer face best odds 11/2 with bet365.

At Chepstow (16.15) Eamon An Cnoic goes for the first time since we backed him at Exeter pre-Christmas – he’s had a wind op since then and the ex-Cheltenham fifth in the BetVictor Gold Cup is looking to get his career back on track, His best form has come on heavy but he does offer some EW value with a best 7’s on offer.

Our member suggestions from Newcastle & Chepstow are below at decent EW prices.

For those on the £1k to £10k challenge it’s currently a 35% win/place strike rate…..our bank is now £713.32 and stakes are now £8.92 EW

1.15 888Sport Handicap Hurdle (3) 2m5f

Timeform Top Rated
144 6. BURROWS EDGE Nicky Henderson Nico de Boinville
143 7. NOT THAT FUISSE Dan Skelton Harry Skelton
142 11. RHYTHM IS A DANCER Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden

Analyst’s Verdict:
It’s taken a while to get Burrows Edge back to the track this season but he should have more to offer over this sort of trip and is selected to make up for lost time. Erick Le Rouge won a competitive event over C&D on Boxing Day and a further 5 lb rise seems unlikely to prevent this progressive sort making another bold bid. Dan Skelton’s Not That Fuisse completes the shortlist.

1.50 888Sport Pendil Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (1) 2½m110y

Timeform Top Rated
166 1. BAGS GROOVE Harry Fry Noel Fehily
165p 3. SECRET INVESTOR Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden
161+ 4. CASTAFIORE Charlie Longsdon Paul O’Brien

Analyst’s Verdict:
Secret Investor is really coming into his own since switched to chasing so, if he’s able to cut out the odd scrappy leap that has been present in his last couple of outings, he should take the beating in a Grade 2 novice that looks highly competitive despite the numbers. Recent Plumpton handicap winner Good Man Pat is regarded as the main danger ahead of Bags Groove.

2.25 888Sport Take ‘Em On Adonis Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 2) (1) 2m

Timeform Top Rated
148 11. SONG FOR SOMEONE Tom Symonds James Davies
145p 8. PROTEKTORAT Dan Skelton Harry Skelton
144+ 13. DEADLINE DIVA Paul Nicholls Paddy Brennan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Fusil Raffles has shown only fair form in a couple of runs over hurdles in France, but it looks significant Nicky Henderson has thrown him straight in at the deep end and he’s taken to shake up the Triumph Hurdle market with victory. The dangers are headed by a couple of interesting hurdling newcomers from the Paul Nicholls yard, namely Ecco and Red Force One. Song For Someone sets the standard.

3.00 Sky Bet Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) (1) 2m

Timeform Top Rated
157P 1. ANGELS BREATH Nicky Henderson Nico de Boinville
155p 6. SCARLET DRAGON Alan King Wayne Hutchinson
154 5. ROUGE VIF Harry Whittington Gavin Sheehan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Angels Breath was all the rage in the betting and looked a top-class prospect when landing a Grade 2 affair on debut at Ascot in December, comfortably coming clear of a host of experienced rivals. He’s open to significant improvement and can concede weight all round. Scarlet Dragon, on the back of his Huntingdon victory, and Tolworth-third Southfield Stone rate next best.

Timeform Top Rated
167p 5. TALKISCHEAP Alan King Wayne Hutchinson
166 4. RATHER BE Nicky Henderson Jeremiah McGrath
165p 8. GLEN ROCCO Nick Gifford Leighton Aspell

Analyst’s Verdict:
Talkischeap lacks experience for a race of this nature but looks well treated on the form he showed in a C&D novice last time and gets the nod with further improvement on the cards. Adrien du Pont has presumably been saved for this since his smooth C&D win over Christmas and rates an obvious big threat, while Rather Be’s latest run was too bad to be true and he could easily bounce back.

4.10 888Sport Bet £10 Get £30 Handicap Chase (3) 2½m110y

145 6. ANOTHER CRICK Noel Williams Wayne Hutchinson
141§ 8. UN BEAU ROMAN Paul Henderson Paddy Brennan
140 5. CONNA CROSS Johnny Farrelly Tom Cannon

Analyst’s Verdict:
Another Crick readily beat a subsequent winner on his third start over fences at Newbury 2 months ago looks well treated on that run. The in-form Conna Cross should be on the premises again, with Bandsman another to consider if ready to go after 7 months off.

4.45 888Sport Take ‘Em On Standard Open National Hunt Flat (5) 2m

Timeform Top Rated
121 1. ENRILO Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden
118 7. SLEIGHT OF HAND Nicky Henderson Ned Curtis (3)
117P 8. FAIRE PART SIVOLA Nick Williams Chester Williams (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Faire Part Sivola impressed when opening up late on in a steadily-run 9-runner bumper at Wincanton last month, and on that evidence, he’s a very useful prospect. Enrilo was fourth in one of the best bumpers of the season at Ascot in December so has to be feared, while J.P.McManus went to £295,000 to acquire Chantry House on the back of a point win.
