Paul Nicholls has got some bad news, his – Rocky Creek will not run in the Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday because he has ringworm.
The good news is that it is treatable in time to re-route him to the Grand National once again, and will now prepare him for Aintree.
“I have had one or two horses that have suffered from ringworm this season – Ceasar Milan was one – and it is just a random problem that pops up occasionally.
It is just incredibly disappointing that it has happened to a high-profile horse before a big race this time.
We originally thought it was heat lumps but they got a lot worse and about a quarter of his body is now affected with it. It was confirmed as ringworm yesterday.
It is highly contagious, so we have to be very careful, but we can manage that.”
That’s hugely frustrating as we thought he was going to Cheltenham with a live outside chance in the Gold Cup…….he’s now aiming at the National and a best priced 33/1 with BETFAIR NRNB with only 25’s on offer elsewhere

Wolverhampton 14.20…..a nice Class 1 listed race to kick off the afternoon, Alben Star arrives in top form and indeed went close on his only other start over 7f and should be thereabouts at EW 9/1 with Bet Victor. However, we look to in-form Andrew Balding and INTRANSIGENT for slightly better value. With 12 wins:places from 21 runs and in form Liam Keniry on board and having wintered in the UAE is on a good mark and a nice EW 12/1 with Bet Victor
