Sunday Newsletter – 13th January 2019

A day with little interest with our sole tracker going in the (14.40) at Kelso. No doubt Choochoobugaloo would provide the longest winning name we have ever had but is definitely one for the lumpers. LTO at Newcastle he was very keen at the back and hit the front 3 out but came to a standstill by hanging on the run in. If he can come later then he should be losing his maiden tag here.

Yesterday saw a welcome winner for us with Keeper Hill winning for the Warren Greatrex yard under Roger Teal’s claimer son, claimer Harry. There was a slight drift out to 5’s at the off from the advised 9/2 which was a slight bonus.

There’s Timeform for Punchestown for those looking for any assistance for a nibble today. We’ll be back around 8.00am in the morning with any views on Fontwell & Ffos Las.

12.40 20% Off Festival Tickets Beginners Chase 2¾m100y

Timeform Top Rated
121 6. GUIDED BY YOU Noel Meade Sean Flanagan
118p 12. YOUNG PADDYMC T. Gibney D. E. Mullins
118 3. CARLITOS BAY Peter Fahey D. J. Mullins

Analyst’s Verdict:
Young Paddymc made an encouraging start to this sphere when runner-up on comeback at Limerick 2 weeks ago and can go one place better with improvement forthcoming. Guided By You and Roxboro Road are feared most.

1.15 Total Event Rental Novice Chase (Grade 3) 2½m

Timeform Top Rated
166p 9. A PLUS TARD Henry de Bromhead Rachael Blackmore
164 7. JETZ Mrs J. Harrington Robbie Power
163 5. BLOW BY BLOW Gordon Elliott P. Townend

Analyst’s Verdict:
A Plus Tard surpassed his useful French hurdles form at the second attempt over fences when scoring at Naas a month ago and with further progress on the cards, he’s very appealing in receipt of weight all round. Winter Escape and Jetz are feared most.

1.45 Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Chase 2½m

Timeform Top Rated
129 1. PEACOCKS SECRET John Joseph Hanlon B. Browne (2)
126 6. TAKE THE CASH Andrew McNamara D. P. Maxwell (4)
124 5. OSCAR LANTERN Eric McNamara R. P. Treacy

Analyst’s Verdict:
Market’s Field created a good impression on his only previous go at chasing and arrives on the back of a solid effort over the smaller obstacles so he could well maintain his unbeaten record in this sphere. Peacocks Secret had been on a roll prior to falling last time, so he’s the main danger ahead of Oscar Lantern.

2.20 Punchestown Amateur National (Q.R.) Handicap Chase 3m1f100y

Timeform Top Rated
143 9. HUGO ‘N TAZ Denis Hogan Mr J. Hogan (7)
140 8. SE MO LAOCH Brian M. McMahon Mr E. Mahon (7)
139 3. WHISPERINTHEBREEZE Mrs J. Harrington Mr F. Maguire (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Se Mo Laoch is thriving at present and is proven at the track, so there’s every reason to think another bold showing is on the cards from the upwardly-mobile 8-y-o. He’s preferred to Snugsborough Hall and the less exposed Aherlow, who could take another step forward.

2.50 Sky Bet Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle (Grade 2) 2m

157 4. JETEZ Mrs J. Harrington Robbie Power
153p 6. BUILDMEUPBUTTERCUP W. P. Mullins P. Townend
148p 5. SWORDSMAN Gordon Elliott J. W. Kennedy

Analyst’s Verdict:
Buildmeupbuttercup was value for much more than the winning margin suggests at Navan on her hurdling debut last month, and she’s taken to improve past standard-setter Jetez. Swordsman, a brother to the exciting Battleoverdoyen, also deserves respect following his impressive Fairyhouse win.

3.20 sportinglife.com Maiden Hurdle 2m

Timeform Top Rated
128p 18. VISION D’HONNEUR Gordon Elliott J. W. Kennedy
116 19. WRITE IT DOWN Joseph Patrick O’Brien J. J. Slevin
113p 16. PROSECUTION John Patrick Murtagh L. P. Dempsey

Analyst’s Verdict:
Vision d’Honneur changed hands for €350,000 following a Flat win in France and while he didn’t quite match expectations when fourth on hurdles bow on Boxing Day it was still a promising effort. He’s sure to step up on that and will take some stopping, for all Elixir D’ainay is an unknown quantity. The Tartan Spartan is also capable of better.

3.50 Leinster Leader Mares Handicap Hurdle 2½m40y

Timeform Top Rated
133 10. IKNOWWHEREIAMNOW J. P. Dempsey L. P. Dempsey
132 2. STUCKER HILL W. J. Lanigan D. E. Mullins
131 5. DRAKAINA Paul Power H. Morgan (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Stucker Hill is firmly on the up and looks capable of completing the hat-trick. Robin On The Hill and Mag Brady are others of interest.
