Our view….John Gosden-trained TAGHROODA earned the right to be here with victories in the Oaks and King George V1 and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.
The mount of Paul Hanagan gets a ton of weight because of her age and sex and would make her the fourth successive female horse to land the Longchamp feature.
Drawn wide in 15 is not ideal but is backable each-way at a best 8/1 with Betfred
Finally our Sunday ‘Funday’ Placepot comes from Huntingdon this afternoon…..
13:50 – The first leg is a novices’ hurdle over an extended two miles and Chesterfield should be kept on side. He’s shaped very encouragingly on both his starts over hurdles thus far and with the services of McCoy to aid him should be there or thereabouts again.
14:25 – It will be another sole selection in the handicap chase over the same trip which follows in the shape ofSaddlers Deal. He disappointed on his debut for Brian Ellison last week but is worth another chance to prove he’s well handicapped, and if in the same mood as when winning here earlier this month should be tough to pass.
15:00 – Gimme Five sets a pretty clear standard in the small-juvenile hurdle which comes next and there is little choice but to choose him as the single runner to carry our hopes. He shaped well again at Fontwell last time and given his connections looks capable of improving significantly.
15:40 – It’s a novices’ handicap chase over the same extended two mile trip under consideration now and given that Lysino has taken well to chasing and is the only one in this field who has run over fences before, he pretty much picks himself.
16:10 – The handicap hurdle over an extended two-and-a-half miles which follows has a number of interesting contenders, not least Deadly Sting. He has got his act together over hurdles in recent weeks and providing he is in the right frame of mind, has more than enough ability and scope from his current mark to make his presence felt. A more consistent option is Triumphant who should also be included, in the hope he can reproduce some of his ability from the flat over timber now he’s running over a more suitable trip.
16:40 – The final leg of this afternoon’s perm is a staying handicap hurdle over 26 furlongs and Torran Sound must be kept on side. He’s been knocking on the door for current handler Lawney Hill for a while know and won’t have any problems with the marathon trip. He is on a long losing run but if he’s ever going to come good again, this race looks the time. Vendredi Trois is the other to keep on side after showing signs of significant promise in bumpers. He looks badly handicapped on the bare facts of his qualifying runs but in the hands of Emma Lavelle anything is possible and if she can eke out some improvement he looks dangerous.
