Tuesday Newsletter – 15th January 2019

Another crossbar hit as Wind Place And Sho was beaten into 2nd place at 10’s at Fontwell Park yesterday. He certainly looks like he needs a bit further with that pace to come off and we’ll take a look where he appears next.

Looking today at Newcastle – HALCYON DAYS looks one for the lumpers in just a 5 runner (15.20). He is a 7-time winning chaser best over the minimum trip and on around 7/4. Previous selection Wig Wam Wiggle is back out in the (15.50) and upped in trip. After showing promise last year, he hasn’t quite come on and with Micky Hammond not hitting the heights yet, is perhaps best watched at present…cue ‘law of sod‘ 😉

Looking at big priced outsiders, Tim Vaughan is hitting a bit of form and has a double entry with Concealed Ambition and Alltimegold in the (14.10) – any move for them could be significant for a 50p EW bet 🙂

We have one for members below at Lingfield in a later race.

12.45 Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 ‘Newcomers’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat (5) 2m56y

Timeform Top Rated:
No ratings for this race

Analyst’s Verdict:
The betting will clearly provide more clues to this field of newcomers but Mighty Meg is Warwickshire-based trainer Olly Murphy’s only runner on the card and the booking of Richard Johnson suggests she’s expected to make a bold bid. Elios d’Or and Basildon are other likely types on paper.

1.20 Parklands Golf Club Juvenile Maiden Hurdle (5) 2m98y

Timeform Top Rated:
121p 8. TOMORROW’S ANGEL Iain Jardine Ross Chapman
120p 5. FANZIO Richard Hobson Paul O’Brien (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Those with previous hurdling experience don’t set the bar that high, so fairly useful Flat winner Dr Richard Kimble, who is a rare runner for his trainer in this sphere, could be up to making a winning start. Fanzio should be capable of building on his hurdling/stable debut and is feared, along with I’m Improving.

1.50 Sky Sports Racing Virgin 535 Novices’ Chase (4) 2m7f91y

Timeform Top Rated:
157p 4. JAMMIN MASTERS Warren Greatrex Richard Johnson
156p 1. DEBECE Tim Vaughan Alan Johns
113 2. FLYING JACK Maurice Barnes Dale Irving (3)

Analyst’s Verdict:
This looks a match between Debece and Jammin Masters. They have both achieved a similar level of form over fences so far but the former is arguably open to more improvement given his hurdles form so gets the vote.

2.20 Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 EBF Mares’ ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle (4) 2½m133y

Timeform Top Rated:
128p 2. DERRIANA SPIRIT Nicky Richards Brian Hughes
127 3. KEEP THE RIVER Iain Jardine Danny McMenamin (7)
126 4. SWEET VINETTA Gillian Boanas Ross Chapman

Analyst’s Verdict:
There’s every chance Derriana Spirit would have beaten her rivals more convincingly given a truer pace last time, and she gets the nod to follow up back up in trip with further improvement on the cards. Keep The River was unlucky to bump into a well-treated sort at Doncaster and is an obvious threat, with Sweet Vinetta also considered.

2.50 Sky Sports Racing Virgin 535 Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (4) 2m98y

Timeform Top Rated:
118§ 8. MURCHISON RIVER Sam England Jonathan England
117 4. IMPERIAL FOCUS Simon Waugh Grant Cockburn (3)
111 5. EMISSAIRE Lucinda Russell Derek Fox

Analyst’s Verdict:
Murchison River has turned over a new leaf in this sphere of late, successful at Leicester prior to a solid second under a penalty over further here last month. He can come out on top. Imperial Focus and Dark Ruler are also considered in a trappy affair.

3.20 Equine Products UK Handicap Chase (4) 2m75y

Timeform Top Rated:
123 3. MUMGOS DEBUT Lucinda Russell Derek Fox
121 1. HALCYON DAYS Rebecca Menzies Conor O’Farrell
120 4. BUDARRI Stuart Coltherd Sean Quinlan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Mumgos Debut might have been rather fortunate to win at Ayr 2 weeks ago but it was still his best effort for a while and he looks the most solid option off the same mark. Halcyon Days isn’t the most reliable but his latest second at Catterick was a good run and he is a big danger if reproducing that form.

3.50 Border Minstrel Pub Amateur Riders’ Handicap Hurdle (5) 2¾m

Timeform Top Rated:
108 6. MAGIC OF MILAN Sam England Mr T. Hamilton
103 7. SENDIYM Andrew Wilson Mr Aaron Anderson (3)
98 3. WIG WAM WIGGLE Micky Hammond Miss Becky Smith

Analyst’s Verdict:
Impossible to get away from Magic of Milan who is unpenalised for last week’s Ayr success and can provide his in-form stable with another winner. Gavin Cromwell’s runners over here are always respected and last month’s Down Royal chase winner Allduckornodinner could be the one to give Sam England’s mare most to think about.
