USPGA Championship: Valhalla
Thursday sees the start of the USPGA Championship: Valhalla Golf Club so we take a comprehensive look at the last major of the year.
Designed by Jack Nicklaus,Valhalla stages its third USPGA Championship. The course features large bentgrass greens that will be fast and undulating, with the fairways wide enough but deep rough lurking to either side.
The long-range forecasts sees Louisville looks set for thunderstorms and given Valhalla is long, if it gets really wet then look to form among the long hitters…….both Bubba Watson and Rory McIlroy, top the driving distance stats?
McIlroy arrives in excellent form and it looks set up for his excellent long game and if the rain does arrive that will be a big plus.
Rory’s even better player when conditions are soft underfoot and he could easily make it three in a row but his price is probably short enough at …odds of 9.0
Adam Scott has finished inside the top-ten in each of his last five events and like McIlroy has the ideal game for Valhalla, ranking 2nd for both length and accuracy on the tour and at odds of 14.0
after a slightly disappointing performance last week at a venue he’s won at before.
Sergio Garcia is in the best form of his life but says his game isn’t suited to Valhalla
Bubba Watson has already won twice this year, including the Masters and fell late on in the Memorial Tournament .
Patrick Reed appears to be at inflated odds given his ability and caught the eye last week when he tied for fouth.
J.B Holmes had an eye-catching performance also last week before a disappointing final day.
