2.20 Arkle Finance Novices’ Hurdle (4) 2m
Timeform Top Rated:
138 10. TAHIRA Richard Hobson Conor Shoemark (3)
125 1. BLEU ET NOIR Tim Vaughan George Blackwell (10)
119 12. EN JOULE Neil Mulholland Wayne Hutchinson
Analyst’s Verdict:
Tahira was in grand form when last seen for Kevin Frost 2 months ago and has to be worth chancing to keep up the good work starting out for another new trainer. Bleu et Noir has to be feared with his conditional helping counter the weight he carries after 3 wins in this sphere. Focaccia is also worth a look on his first go over hurdles.
2.50 Rathbone Investment Management Handicap Chase (5) 2½m
Timeform Top Rated:
110 1. DAULYS ANTHEM David Dennis Sam Twiston-Davies
109 8. BALLY LAGAN Robin Dickin Jack Quinlan
109x 2. HIGHBURY HIGH Neil Mulholland Noel Fehily
Analyst’s Verdict:
Daulys Anthem is proving expensive to follow but he probably failed to stay the longer trip at Stratford last time and is given another chance with everything seemingly in his favour now. Highbury High was only just edged out at Fontwell last month and is a clear next best.
3.25 Ken Muir Memorial Handicap Hurdle (4) 3¼m
Timeform Top Rated:
129 3. BENEFICIAL JOE Graeme McPherson Kielan Woods
128 7. ROYAL BATTALION Gary Moore Jamie Moore
127 1. FOR ‘N’ AGAINST David Pipe Tom Scudamore
Analyst’s Verdict:
Backing Patsys Castle comes with clear risks attached, but he’s certainly very well handicapped if the return to timber can spark a revival, so he’s well worth chancing. Beneficial Joe is probably the solid play in the race as a last-time-out winner who is unexposed as a stayer, while Bold Conquest has no stamina concerns like several in the line-up.
3.55 John Allen Memorial Interactive Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (4) 2m
Timeform Top Rated:
134p 6. NO CEILING Ian Williams Tom O’Brien
132 8. VEXILLUM Neil Mulholland Noel Fehily
131 5. JARLATH Seamus Mullins Kevin Jones (5)
Analyst’s Verdict:
No Ceiling followed up an easy success over hurdles on his chase debut last month and he appeals as the type to have more to offer. Wells de Lune was underwhelming when last seen in April, but he should improve now handicapping after a break.
4.30 Asset Finance Brokers Handicap Chase (3) 3m1f100y
Timeform Top Rated:
150 4. MASTER DEE Fergal O’Brien Paddy Brennan
147 3. KILFINICHEN BAY Charlie Longsdon Richard Johnson
146 1. PAIR OF JACKS Malcolm Jefferson Brian Hughes
Analyst’s Verdict:
Master Dee showed a good attitude when making it third-time lucky for Fergal O’Brien at Newton Abbot recently. A 2 lb rise for that success is fair and he may yet have more to offer. Kilfinichen Bay has also been in good form of late and is feared, whilst Pair of Jacks and Letbeso are others worthy of a place on the shortlist.
5.00 Rathbone Investment Management Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (4) 2m3f
Timeform Top Rated:
119x 3. DEJA BOUGG Neil Mulholland Noel Fehily
118 5. DRY OL’PARTY Philip Hobbs Richard Johnson
117+ 2. TROUBLED SOUL Fergal O’Brien Paddy Brennan
Analyst’s Verdict:
Troubled Soul was disappointing on her final outing for Denis Hogan last month, but it would come as little surprise were she to return back on her game having switched to the Fergal O’Brien team. Deja Bougg has a bigger performance in her, but that may come at around 2m, while What A Scorcher can remain competitive.
