Wolverhampton Racecourse Polytrack issues
Arena Racing Company (ARC), acknowledged Wolverhampton’s ageing and widely criticised Polytrack needs to be replaced.
Trainers with safety concerns about the surface look set to face a wait of at least six months before any significant change is made.
ARC ordered work to be carried out on the Polytrack at Dunstall Park as recently as September but the surface, which was laid in 2003, continues to come under fire.
Trainers Noel Quinlan and Ron Harris have voiced their reluctance to have runners at the track, while in Monday’s Racing Post John Gosden urged Arc to “look at the situation very seriously”.
Those words appeared to have struck a chord with Arc’s senior management, which on Monday announced the launching of a tender process which could lead to a new track, either Polytrack or an alternative artificial surface, being laid at Wolverhampton after the all-weather season ends on Good Friday.
Kate Hills, director of PR and communications for Arc, said: “Despite there being no concern at present over the safety of the track, it is reaching the end of its useful life and in preparation for that Arc will commence a full tender process to prepare for the replacement of the surface in the new year.”
