York Races: May Meeting: 14th May 2014
York Races May Meeting starts today and we have a few of last years notebook horses going early in the season and a chance to maybe pick up a big priced winner.
We’ve had an amazing start to the flat season and all our results can be checked out at ‘Always Back Winners Selections’. Plus you can check our notebook horses out and also our ’12 flat horses to follow’ via the highlighted links.
York holds good memories and was the first course we ever visited and dropped the placepot on John Smiths Magnet Cup Day in 1978 paying around £35….a decent pick up in those days!
Statistics….
- On the straight sprint course, on soft going, low to middle drawn horses have a statistical advantage.
- 59{70aeb3532cb26dbe277d25ea128ebb74de84b9bd22e1583b0eb1b73768e061f6} of winners come from the first three in the betting
- 45{70aeb3532cb26dbe277d25ea128ebb74de84b9bd22e1583b0eb1b73768e061f6} of winners come from the top3 3 in the weights
- 50{70aeb3532cb26dbe277d25ea128ebb74de84b9bd22e1583b0eb1b73768e061f6} of winners were placed last time out
- Average winning draw is 6.5
Onto today’s picks and here’s our selections if just backing blind from those horses carried over from last year, but we’ll review there chances below.
Today’s Racing Selections…..
York 13.45……Grandorio goes up against SPIRIT OF THE LAW and we’ll opt for the latter at a monster EW price. Both are reasonably drawn, key is to avoid a high draw in any race here….or so the stats suggest. With a run under his belt and a Win/Place ratio of over 30{70aeb3532cb26dbe277d25ea128ebb74de84b9bd22e1583b0eb1b73768e061f6}, Richard Fahey’s charge may just get us a biggie at a best EW price 28/1 with SkyBet.
York 15.50.…THAT IS THE SPIRIT went into our notebook when winning how he liked at Doncaster first time out on the soft. If we are looking for value then it’s a best priced win only 3/1 with SkyBet and no real EW value in a 19 runner event. Today, he’s up against Sir Michael Stoute’s Idea who hold pattern entries, so maybe we’ll keep a watch and leave alone today.
York 17.00….. Bayan Kasirga is carried over from last years notebook but hasn’t shown anything so far this season and is deservedly 33/1 with SkyBet. Sam Bell has the ride and gets a valuable 5lb allowance on the inside rail for Richard Fahey’s charge.
He usually likes to come with a late run and should be able to get covered up here from that draw and may spring a big priced place? Fahey has multiple declarations in this with Ryan Moore opting for the Chester winner Gabrial’s Star who is effectively a winner without a penalty.
At a best price 2/1 with Bet Victor we won’t be chancing either and think Paul Hanagan may have the best value of Fahey’s trio with MICA MIKA at a sound EW price of 9/1 with SkyBet.
