Today’s Royal Ascot News

Andre Fabre has supplemented Make Believe into the St James’s Palace Stakes on the opening afternoon of Royal Ascot for a potentially explosive clash with Gleneagles.
Make Believe won the Poule d’Essai des Poulains at Longchamp in early May, comfortably getting the measure of stablemate and subsequent French Derby winner New Bay.
With that Group 1 winning form having been sufficiently boosted, connections have elected to take on Aidan O’Brien’s dual English and Irish 2000 Guineas winner at Ascot next Tuesday over a mile.
“The decision was made a bit easier with New Bay winning the French Derby. That franked the form, although it was over a different distance,
“Immediately after the race in France, Andre mooted that maybe we would do that and he was happy with him.
“I called him this morning and he said he’d supplemented him. It’s great and something to look forward to.” Ted Voute, bloodstock advisor for owner Prince Faisal.
Betting St James’s Palace Stakes…
Make Believe has entered the market for the St James’s Palace Stakes and is currently 4.50 to win at Ascot, with Gleneagles 1.57 to continue his winning ways.
The Ballydoyle star romped to victory at Newmarket at the beginning of May to score in the 2000 Guineas for O’Brien and jockey Ryan Moore.
With unsuitably soft ground at the Curragh for the Irish Guineas later in the month he was forced to dig much deeper, battling gamely for Moore to eventually get the better of Richard Hannon’s front-running Ivawood.
Ivawood is 17.00 to turn the tables at Ascot having finished a-length-and-a-quarter back in third in Ireland.
Make Believe meanwhile readily took the prize at Longchamp on just his third career start, a race in which Ballydoyle inmate Highland Reel had been sent off favourite.

Today’s York Timeform…
14.00 ripleycollection.com Longines Irish Champions Weekend EBF Maiden Stakes (3) 5f
Top Rated & Flags
93p 6. SECRET AMBITION Mark Johnston Silvestre De Sousa
76p 5. SCOTTISH COMMAND Richard Hannon Sean Levey
69 4. KODIMOOR Danielle McCormick Neil Farley (3)
Analyst’s Verdict: Secret Ambition was runner-up to the promising Birchwood at Doncaster last time, and should prove hard to beat with further improvement on the cards. Scottish Command, who looked in need of the experience on debut, is feared most, while any market support for the newcomer Geno should be noted.
14.30 DRS Television, CCTV Design & Installations Stakes (Handicap) (3)
Top Rated & Flags
105§ 9. CACTUS VALLEY Michael Easterby Graham Gibbons
104 6. FIFTYSHADESFREED George Baker Jamie Spencer
103p 2. MISTIROC Jim Goldie Fergal Lynch
Analyst’s Verdict: Amood showed a tenacious attitude when scoring at Newmarket last month and remains unexposed over this trip, so could well give a good account again. Mistiroc leaves the impression of having a bigger performance in him and is respected for all he shapes as if he’ll stay a fair bit further, while Monaleen, Maven, and Cactus Valley are all considered also.
15.05 SKF Rous Selling Stakes (3) 6f
Top Rated & Flags
91 6. PIPPIN STREET Richard Fahey Tony Hamilton
88 7. SMART MOVER John Quinn Phillip Makin
82 3. CLIODHNA Mick Channon Charles Bishop
Analyst’s Verdict: Pippin Street sets the standard and could open her account in this long-standing seller with the extra furlong set to suit. Smart Mover seems sure to give a good account, while Parkes And Ride appeals as a surefire improver from his Ripon debut.
15.40 Geoff Pemberton Stakes (Handicap) (3) 7f
Top Rated & Flags
108+ 6. REX IMPERATOR David O’Meara David Nolan
106 13. LUCKY LODGE Antony Brittain P. J. McDonald
106 5. HE’S NO SAINT David O’Meara Fergal Lynch
Analyst’s Verdict: 2013 Stewards’ Cup winner Rex Imperator served firm notice his turn could be near again at Thirsk last time and can give his yard a third successive win in this race. Mehdi and Kalk Bay are similarly both hard to win with, but ran well last time and will pop up again before too much longer.
16.10 888sport Choose EBF Nominated Fillies’ Stakes (Handicap) (2) 6f
Top Rated & Flags
115 1. WILLBEME Neville Bycroft Phillip Makin
114 5. SLEEPY SIOUX David Elsworth Jamie Spencer
114 9. AVON BREEZE Richard Whitaker Connor Beasley
Analyst’s Verdict: Willbeme has a good record here and has returned in great order this year, so she gets the vote to follow up last year’s success in this competitive handicap, with the step back up in trip a positive. Ridge Ranger looks progressive with 2 wins already this year, and she heads the list of dangers, with Gran Canaria Queen and Sleepy Sioux respected, also.
16.40 Garbutt & Elliott Stakes (Handicap) (3) 1¾m
Top Rated & Flags
110 8. SAVED BY THE BELL David O’Meara Sam James
108+ 10. ICON DREAM Jim Goldie Fergal Lynch
107 12. CHIVERS Tim Easterby Graham Gibbons
Analyst’s Verdict: Trendsetter appeared to have a bit up his sleeve when scoring at Chester recently and, with the distinct possibility of better to come, he’s taken to defy a 5 lb rise in the weights. Chivers did the job in good style at Carlisle but, like fellow last-time-out winner Rosairlie, conditions may be too lively here. Consequently, Saved By The Bell and Icon Dream rate the main dangers.
17.15 888sport Apprentice Stakes (Handicap) (4) 1½m
Top Rated & Flags
91p 5. GLEESE THE DEVIL Richard Fahey Samantha Bell (3)
89 10. MIDNIGHT WARRIOR Ron Barr Joe Doyle
88 7. VALANTINO OYSTER Tracy Waggott Jacob Butterfield
Analyst’s Verdict: Gleese The Devil remains unexposed at this trip and looks the type to really progress this year, so he’s selected. Midnight Warrior confirmed himself in good form when winning at Redcar last month, and he looks the main danger, while Jefferson City remains with potential, too.
