A decent start to the week with Mark Walford’s ZUMURUD winning at Catterick.

Ella McCain is looking like a claimer worth following with a few of her chosen stable Easterby charges. However, the price did evaporate early doors and the R4 knocked the expected returns 🙁

 

For those on the new 2021/22 £1k to £10k Annual Challenge, the bank is £1250.01 and current full stakes, unless advised, £15.63 EW

The 2021 Turf bank currently stands at +21 pts to 1pt EW stakes with over a 42% win/place rate.

Today’s Selections

 

Catterick 17.00

Catterick is a noted C&D specialist track and its sharp downhill turning nature. With Donnellys’ Rainbow having to win from 5 higher and apparently wanting quicker, will look elsewhere.

Have always advocated watching Mark Walford’s charges over the 7f early in the season and after a quiet 2020, lockdown affected, seems to have them going well already.

We have previously backed ZUMURUD when with the late Rebecca Bastiman, and this one has become well handicapped over the last season. He was an easy winner here over the 6f in July 2019 off 79 that nudged him to mid 80’s and then came back to run Gabrial The Devil a close up 4th in a C4 in the autumn.

Off that elevated mark in 2020, he ran Red Pike a close up 5th here and again wasn’t that far behind Parys Mountain here, again in a C4 on an easy surface.

He was not for stopping in that 6f win here that bodes well for this new trip. Ella McCain is proving a class apprentice for the Easterby yard and there’s a best 8’s but enough 7’s to be interested in this one this morning with regulation 3 paying slots.
