A really poor showing last night from Super Julius and perhaps in hindsight we shouldn’t have taken the race on with the forecasted lack of pace. As it turned out Seamus Kelly blasted Jashma out form a wide draw and went hell for leather……Charles Bishop decided to do the chasing and both were swallowed up

Beverley and Chepstow…‘not so heavy’ today, there’s a few out we have noted previous in the 16.10 at Beverley – notably Dawaaleeb,  a big, Invincible Spirit horse taken from the Charlie Hills yard who progressed steadily throughout his three-year-old campaign. He ran a cracker at Newcastle to win first time out on the AW after being absent since October. A turf maiden, he has placed three times and despite low draws having the better of things at Beverley up to 7f – at 1m+ it’s a rarity if 1-4 feature contrary to what some of the SL scribes are commenting this morning. He still is improving with running and looks like his opportunity is near and available at a best EW wipes yer face place of 11/2 for Les Eyre. At the head of the market, favourite Alejandro is a veteran who showed more of his old self at Chester last week – whether that translates here is up for question and Areen Heart has never done it in this class.

2.20 Smarkets Betting Exchange Novices’ Hurdle (4) 1m7f65y

Timeform Top Rated:

136 2. THE DETAINEE Neil Mulholland Tom Scudamore
135 7. LET’S SWAY Tracey Barfoot-Saunt Charlie Hammond (7)
119 4. MARETTIMO Bill Turner Sean Houlihan (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
The Detainee showed definite promise over hurdles during the autumn and, having resumed progress on the level at Windsor recently, he is fancied to continue the good work reverting back to timber. Compatriot’s recent exploits on the Flat have been underwhelming but he is respected nonetheless for Olly Murphy, along with Let’s Sway who is in receipt of weight all round.

2.50 Smarkets 2% Commission Handicap Hurdle (5) 1m7f65y

Timeform Top Rated:

109 7. RUBY RUSSET Colin Tizzard Harry Cobden
105+ 2. BORAK Bernard Llewellyn Robert Williams (3)
104§ 9. KARL MARX Mark Gillard Dave Crosse

Analyst’s Verdict:
Ruby Russet looks to have strong claims after shaping so well from this mark last week, and she gets the nod to open her account. Borak and Karl Marx head up the opposition.

3.20 smarkets.com Handicap Hurdle (4) 2m5f82y

Timeform Top Rated:

123 6. STOLE THE SHOW Dr Richard Newland Sam Twiston-Davies
122 2. ZULU OSCAR Jeremy Scott Matt Griffiths
121§ 10. BENBECULA Richard Mitchell Miss Page Fuller (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Stole The Show became yet another new recruit to make a winning debut for this yard at Fontwell last week and holds obvious claims off the same mark. The Black Squirrel may do better now handicapping and is feared most.

3.50 Smarkets Novices’ Chase (2) 2½m35y

Timeform Top Rated:
139p 3. INDIAN HAWK Nicky Henderson Daryl Jacob
136p 4. OVERLAND FLYER Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden
132+ 2. EXXARO Colin Tizzard Tom Scudamore

Analyst’s Verdict:
Overland Flyer didn’t look happy going left-handed last time and will be more at home this way round. He can strike at the second time of asking over fences, most likely at the main expense of Indian Hawk.

4.20 smarkets.com Handicap Chase (4) 3¼m162y

Timeform Top Rated:
131p 3. RISE OF AN EMPIRE Harry Fry Miss A. B. O’Connor (7)
129 4. PHANGIO Matt Sheppard Stan Sheppard (3)
126+ 1. MORE BUCK’S Paul Nicholls Mr Lorcan Williams (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Rise of An Empire made an encouraging start for new connections when third at Ludlow 3 weeks ago, his best effort yet over fences, and looks a big player with further improvement expected. Phangio ran his best race for a while when scoring at Warwick last time and is feared most.

4.50 Smarkets Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat (5) 1m7f65y

Timeform Top Rated:

110 6. LILLIPUT LANE Johnny Farrelly Brendan Powell
109 10. PARDON ME Seamus Mullins Jeremiah McGrath
105 1. ALL HANDS ON DECK Harry Fry Niall Madden

Analyst’s Verdict:
Quantity over quality, so newcomers Rose Crown and Skin Deep could come to the fore representing successful yards. Mick Channon’s filly ought not to lack for speed given she’s out of a smart 7f performer, so is just preferred. Willow May and Lilliput Lane may emerge as the pick of those with experience.

5.20 Smarkets Open Hunters’ Chase (6) 3m1f30y

Timeform Top Rated:

133 1. UNIONISTE Paul Nicholls Mr David Maxwell
118 2. WOODFLEET Richard J. Bandey Mr Jordan Nailor (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
This looks a very good opportunity for Unioniste to notch a fourth win of the year. His rivals all have a bit to prove, although Woodfleet did take a step back in the right direction in the pointing field last time.
