Lingfield Racecourse
Lingfield racecourse is possibly the fastest of the all weather tracks in the UK.
There’s the belief that on this Polytrack surface that front runners cannot win here, and because of this you often get falsely run races as nobody wants to lead.
It is actually possible to win from the front if a horse gets given a soft lead. Otherwise the final turn which is preceded by a downhill section appears to act as a ‘slingshot’ effect, as in cycling. Horses can therefore come from the rear around the outside/centre of the course.
It is thought that the strip closest to the running rail rides much slower than the middle of the track and this has put an end to any ‘low-draw’ bias at Lingfield and it is considered best avoiding low drawn horses who race prominently and who hold the far rail.
Again, we’ll consider and maybe challenge those thoughts below 🙂

Pace
Pace stats for the entire All-Weather tracks as a comparison.
As we can see, on the whole front running sorts fair best, however, Newcastle does favour the hold up’s as much as those who like to race prominently (‘a‘ very nearly equals ‘b‘) and what we will consider when analysing each course……..
