Just Market Rasen today and not a whole load of interest…..the (16.40) is just a 7 runner that Shocking Times looks a solid favourite coming in on the back of a win and having won off this mark before. Cyclop offers some value as a course winner, dropped to a C4 and a claimer up to boot but the drop back in trip is a bit of an unknown though.

The nine runner hurdle (15.05) has nothing really stand out – perhaps Unblinking could be under the radar on handicap debut after a solid looking 2m effort on the AW? He gets a + rating from the speedmeisters below and another 7lb claimer up top may see him hit the places at wipes yer face odds.

2.00 Smarkets Novices’ Hurdle (Qualifier) (4) 2m148y

Timeform Top Rated:
159 1. MONT DES AVALOIRS Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden
131 2. THE KING OF MAY Brian Ellison Henry Brooke
123 3. MON ELDORADO Peter Bowen Sean Bowen

Analyst’s Verdict:
Mont des Avaloirs sets a clear standard so should prove hard to beat. The King of May is preferred to Mon Eldorado for the forecast.

2.30 Smarkets Maiden Hurdle (5) 2½m139y

Timeform Top Rated:
138 5. QUEST FOR LIFE Mark Walford Jamie Hamilton
137 4. MIDNIGHT CHILL Jamie Snowden Gavin Sheehan
134p 6. THE BOTTOM BAR Nicky Henderson Daryl Jacob

Analyst’s Verdict:
The Bottom Bar is in excellent hands and is sure to have learnt plenty from his encouraging hurdles debut at Towcester in December, so he receives the vote. Quest For Life is well worth another try over this sort of trip, while Ataguiseamix could prove a different proposition after his recent wind surgery (also in first-time tongue tie).

3.05 Smarkets Handicap Hurdle (4) 2½m139y

Timeform Top Rated:
124 6. CHANDOS BELLE Stuart Edmunds Ciaran Gethings
123 1. MR SNOOZY Mark Walford Henry Brooke
121+ 8. UNBLINKING Nigel Twiston-Davies Mr Jordan Nailor (7)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Chandos Belle crucially saw her race out better than has often been the case when scoring at Huntingdon last month and she could well be the way to go despite a 9 lb hike in the weights. Zen Master bounced back to form last time and is feared, while it’s too soon to be writing off Reckless Behavior.

3.35 Smarkets Handicap Chase (4) 2m1f43y

Timeform Top Rated:
130 1. RED DEVIL STAR Suzy Smith Jack Sherwood (3)
127 3. ROXYFET Micky Hammond Finian O’Toole (3)
126? 2. BALLYCAMP Charles Pogson Adam Pogson

Analyst’s Verdict:
Red Devil Star has now dipped below his last winning mark and is in good enough form to take advantage. Roxyfet looks the most solid of the opposition.

4.10 Smarkets Chase (Novices’ Limited Handicap) (3) 2m5f89y

Timeform Top Rated:
147 1. MONBEG CHARMER Charlie Longsdon Jonathan Burke
146 4. REMIND ME LATER Gary Moore Joshua Moore
144 2. MARQUIS OF CARABAS David Dennis Aidan Coleman

Analyst’s Verdict:
Remind Me Later was in good form when last seen in the autumn and can also go well fresh, so earns the vote. None of his 4 rivals can be dismissed, with Monbeg Charmer feared most back down in class.

4.40 Molson Coors Handicap Chase (4) 2m7f191y

Timeform Top Rated:
132x 3. SHOCKINGTIMES Jamie Snowden Tom O’Brien
128§ 4. THEDRINKYMEISTER Henry Daly Richard Johnson
127§ 5. RUSSBOROUGH Venetia Williams Charlie Deutsch

Analyst’s Verdict:
Shockingtimes cut out the mistakes when a decisive scorer at Haydock 3 weeks ago, and given a subsequent 7 lb rise still leaves him below his previous winning mark, his follow-up claims appear to be bright. Lip Service remains with potential as a chaser and is feared most, ahead of Russborough.

5.10 Smarkets Standard Open National Hunt Flat (5) 2m148y

Timeform Top Rated:
114 7. AKARITA LIGHTS John Quinn Connor King
113 1. MYPLACEATMIDNIGHT Neil King Trevor Whelan
109 5. GUIDING STARS Harry Whittington Gavin Sheehan

Analyst’s Verdict:
Dorking Boy‘s dam was a very impressive winner on her debut in this sphere for the same owners, and representing an in-form yard, he could well make a big impact himself. Myplaceatmidnight won this race 12 months ago and will likely give it a good go under a penalty, with Akarita Lights another to consider for all these are totally different conditions to on his debut.
