Saturday – 12th May 2018

ABOVE THE REST ran 3rd yesterday for some 6/4 profit from the 8/1 most of you were able to get –  noted in the into, REBECCA ROCKS gave the lumpers amongst you a decent priced 7/4 backed in to 11/8 winner.

Today there’s some top class racing with Derby trials day at Lingfield and The Victoria Cup Heritage Handicap at Ascot – this race is always one you can usually take something out of after the event when post-analysing the running. We’re looking at one in that for some EW interest being just shy on a 30 runner and 5 and 6 places being paid out.

It’s a race that’s been dominated by 4 and 5 yo who have previous form at the trip…a previous outing on the turf since the start of the season….with an apparent high 8-11 cut off point – many will be on Keyser Soze following that impressive run in Newbury’s Spring Mile but we’re looking outside of the favourite for a little more value.

We’re up at Thirsk for our 2nd selection, Eric Alston had Maid In India out in the 19.45, he gave us a nice winner this week as the stable landed a gamble with Acclaim The Nation. That ones being made a shortish priced favourite and with best form at 6f, though well drawn in 10, we’ll watch this one for the future and look elsewhere – although they’re expecting that one to be progressive this season.

Timeform for the Ascot meet below – as are members selections – we’ll be back at 8.00am MONDAY morning with one likely to be going at Catterick.

2.15 Les Ambassadeurs Casino Handicap (3) 1m3f211y

Timeform Top Rated

113 3. THUNDERING BLUE David Menuisier Andrea Atzeni
111 9. HUMBLE HERO William Haggas Daniel Tudhope

Analyst’s Verdict:
Thundering Blue caught the eye on his return at Epsom and looks set to run a big race if staying this longer trip. Koeman and Humble Hero are other key players.

2.50 Carey Group Buckhounds Stakes (Listed) (1) 1m3f211y

Timeform Top Rated

132 1. BARSANTI Roger Varian Andrea Atzeni
131 3. MIRAGE DANCER Sir Michael Stoute William Buick
128 4. SALOUEN Sylvester Kirk Silvestre De Sousa

Analyst’s Verdict:
This looks Barsanti‘s optimum trip and all looks set fair for a big run from him on his return before he goes back up in grade. Mirage Dancer and God Given could both progress further this year and are ones to watch.

3.25 EBF “Breeders’ Series” Fillies’ Handicap (2) 1m

Timeform Top Rated

116 2. QUEEN OF TIME Henry Candy Fran Berry
113p 7. DYNAMIC William Haggas Andrea Atzeni
113 4. ZEST James Fanshawe Daniel Muscutt

Analyst’s Verdict:
Queen of Time agonisingly clipped heels and unseated her rider when coming with what looked like a winning run at Goodwood last weekend. On that evidence, she is still on an upward curve and compensation awaits here. She may have most to fear from another progressive 4-y-o in Dynamic, though Tribute Act also commands respect on her return.

4.00 Totescoop6 Victoria Cup (Heritage Handicap) (2) 7f

Timeform Top Rated

124 3. SILENT ATTACK Saeed bin Suroor Silvestre De Sousa
123 12. KEYSER SOZE Richard Spencer Jamie Spencer
122p 23. POUVOIR MAGIQUE John Gosden Kieran O’Neill

Analyst’s Verdict:
A typically ultracompetitive renewal, but Silent Attack has plenty going for him after an impressive return to action at Lingfield in April, and looks well worth his place in this higher grade. Keyser Soze is another having a second run back after a lay-off, but he certainly caught the eye in the Spring Cup at Newbury, and remains unexposed. Pouvoir Magique, Kynren and Escobar are others to note.

4.35 Totesport.com Novice Stakes (3) 5f

Timeform Top Rated

95p 1. BLOWN BY WIND Mark Johnston William Buick
94p 2. DAVE DEXTER Ralph Beckett Louis Steward
67p 9. SIR OX Robert Cowell Silvestre De Sousa

Analyst’s Verdict:
Having scored with such authority on debut at Windsor, it was surprising to see Blown By Wind turned over when odds on back there 12 days later. However, the winner that day looked well above-average and Mark Johnston’s charge is taken to regain the winning thread. Great Respect could be the pick of the clutch of likely-looking newcomers and may be next best ahead of Newbury winner Dave Dexter.

5.10 Leo Bancroft Signature Haircare Handicap (4) 6f

Timeform Top Rated

96 10. MOONRAKER Michael Appleby Charles Bishop
95 16. LORD COOPER Jose Santos Raul Da Silva
94+ 15. TRICKY DICKY Olly Williams Connor Murtagh (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
A chance is taken on Moonraker, who hasn’t got his head in front for almost 3 years, but he wouldn’t be the first to benefit from the switch to Michael Appleby’s yard. He’s potentially very well treated if the change of scenery does perk him up. Blazed is of strong interest with Jamie Spencer aboard, while Tricky Dicky, Imagine If and Field of Vision are all shortlist material.

Today’s Bets……..

Good luck if you’re going with our each-way selections today….
