Nothing to report on from yesterday, albeit our views on sole race we mentioned, the Windsor 17.35 panned out with Bakht A Rawan doing Harlequin Striker quite comfortably in the end – we had a few emails that some of you went with that for an early nibble so well done anyone pulling in a nice profit from that one. It would have been nice to have backed that one from a point of confidence, but as we said yesterday – it’s early doors and there were more ‘cons’ than ‘pros’ about that one. Our introductory thoughts are there to use as you wish but will not constitute any of the ‘official bets’ for the season.

Today is the start of the HQ Craven Meeting with the ‘speedmeister’s ratings below – it’s mainly 3yo fodder and not something we tend to focus on so early. The races of interest are the 16.10 C2 8f down the Rowley Mile; the 17.20 C2 7f and the 17.55 C3 5f,  and with the stalls are on the stands side it’s felt that a high draw would be favourable.

The first said race, 16.10 sees a sole one we backed profitably last year, Frank Bridge from the EJ-H yard and Charles Bishop up top. That combo gave us some nice coups last term and will hopefully pay their way again for us. Though the stable are in good form, he looks high enough in the weights and never best so early and we will not look to back them today. We never back a Fahey winner so is there any point in mentioning Constantino 🙂 – he does arrive fit but has better form on the AW. Possibly Stuart Williams’s Examiner warrants the strongest mention – he had a decent run in The Cambridgeshire here and is just 1lb above his highest winning mark

1.50 Alex Scott Maiden Stakes (4) (D.I) 7f

Timeform Top Rated:
96 12. ROBSDELIGHT Gay Kelleway Aaron Jones (3)
90p 13. TILGHMAN William Jarvis Kieran Shoemark
90 9. MANKIND George Scott Fran Berry

Analyst’s Verdict:
Elhafei very much caught the eye when fourth at Lingfield on debut in November and can give John Gosden another success in this maiden having won 3 of the last 4 renewals. Aurum makes most appeal of the newcomers and needs keeping an eye on, while Robsdelight sets the standard on his debut second at Doncaster last month.

2.25 Alex Scott Maiden Stakes (4) (D.II) 7f

Timeform Top Rated:
98 11. PORTH SWTAN Charles Hills Paul Hanagan
95p 7. HISTORY WRITER David Menuisier Richard Kingscote
94 8. JAWWAAL John Gosden Jim Crowley

Analyst’s Verdict:
History Writer holds a Guineas entry, and this scopey sort offered plenty to work on when third in a big-field maiden at Sandown in September (form with substance to it). He should have plenty more to offer in 2018 and is selected to make a winning reappearance. Jawwaal and Global Art are feared most, though there are interesting newcomers to consider, too.

3.00 Montaz Restaurant EBF Novice Stakes (4) 5f

Timeform Top Rated:
82p 3. I AM A DREAMER Mark Johnston P. J. McDonald
68p 8. YNYS MON Charles Hills William Buick

Analyst’s Verdict:
Van Beethoven makes plenty of appeal on paper and market confidence for the Scat Daddy colt would look significant. Pesci is another likely newcomer for a yard that is already off the mark with its 2-y-os this season, while I Am A Dreamer should put his experience to good use.

3.35 British EBF Bet365 Conditions Stakes (3) 7f

Timeform Top Rated:
113p 1. PURSER John Gosden Frankie Dettori
108p 5. SYMBOLIZATION Charlie Appleby William Buick
102 4. STORMBRINGER Kevin Ryan Martin Harley

Analyst’s Verdict:
Symbolization ‘s form is proving very strong and he appeals as the sort to go on to much better things this season. Purser sets a good standard so has to be respected.

4.10 Plusvital Energene-Q10 Handicap (2) 1m

Timeform Top Rated:
119 18. SECRET ART William Knight Martin Dwyer
118 7. ALMOREB Richard Hannon Dane O’Neill
117 3. MAFAAHEEM Owen Burrows Jim Crowley

Analyst’s Verdict:
Secret Art is one of the veterans of the race, but he won on his second start back last season from 7 lb higher, and with an encouraging reappearance on the AW under his belt, he looks primed for a big run. Fire Brigade was very disappointing in the Lincoln but could easily bounce back with a tongue tie on, with Roller and Sinfonietta a couple more to note.

4.45 Bet365 Feilden Stakes (Listed) (1) 1m1f

Timeform Top Rated:
121p 2. KEW GARDENS Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore
120p 6. MILDENBERGER Mark Johnston James Doyle
117 4. DARK ACCLAIM Marco Botti Andrea Atzeni

Analyst’s Verdict:
Mildenberger was an excellent third behind a couple of very smart colts in the Royal Lodge here in the autumn and the 3 lb he receives from main-rival Kew Gardens may prove decisive. The potential big improver is Msayyan, who hails from a yard with a very good recent record in this event.

5.20 Bet365 Handicap (2) 7f

Timeform Top Rated:
121 14. JUANITO CHICO William Jarvis Jamie Spencer
119 10. DONNCHA Robert Eddery Jim Crowley
118 15. ROBERO Michael Easterby Silvestre De Sousa

Analyst’s Verdict:
Inshiraah was improving at a rate of knots when last seen and will likely end up better than a handicapper. She’ll go well if ready to roll on her return. Medahim similarly should have more to offer this year having been gelded and has to be respected, while Juanito Chico and White Lake are also respected in a competiive race that will throw up winners in the coming weeks.

5.55 Quy Mill Hotel & Spa Handicap (3) 5f

Timeform Top Rated:
114 4. STORM OVER Robert Cowell Luke Morris
113 2. MAJOR JUMBO Kevin Ryan Nicola Currie (5)
113 9. SUPER JULIUS Eve Johnson Houghton Edward Greatrex

Analyst’s Verdict:
Storm Over progressed nicely last season, and he very much appeals as the sort to continue that theme this time round (still very low-mileage, and probably still on a good mark). Major Jumbo and Evergate also fall into the unexposed category so are feared most.
