With no selections it’s straight back into today…..a big meet at Ascot heads the cards with one of our progressive winners from last term, Ballard Down out in the Listed 16.20. He still looks a case of watch and see after a couple of lack lustre displays in the Lincoln and Newbury Spring Mile, especially up in grade again – Timeform is below for anyone looking at this meet.

At Ponty (15.55), there’s one we noted – Give It Some Teddy, when backing Hanagan on Society Red at the same course in the race won by Gulf Of Poets. David Allan was up top on the winner that day and today rides Give It Some Teddy who has been made favourite for this one.

We predominantly noted him running on well from a poor draw and he’s hardly been gifted anything better today and we’ll watch when he’s out under more favourable conditions than a mean 5/1 in a 16 runner 🙂

We’re taking one in that race for our members selections below and as ever, please drop us a line at feedback@always-back-winners.com with any questions…..

2.00 Sodexo Conditions Stakes (2) 5f

Timeform Top Rated:
100p 2. THE IRISH ROVER Aidan O’Brien Ryan Moore
84p 4. VIKIVAKI Robert Cowell Luke Morris

Analyst’s Verdict:
The Irish Rover produced a promising first effort when third at Dundalk last month, and with improvement very much on the cards, he can make it second time lucky. Vikivaki also boasts the benefit of experience and may emerge as the chief threat.

2.35 Sky Bet Supporting Spinal Injuries Association British EBF Fillies’ Conditions Stakes (3) 7f213y

Timeform Top Rated:
117p 1. DATHANNA Charlie Appleby William Buick
93p 3. RED STARLIGHT Richard Hannon Ryan Moore
86p 2. GOLDEN IRIS Jonathan Portman Rob Hornby

Analyst’s Verdict:
Dathanna sets a high standard and should prove hard to beat with further improvement forthcoming. Red Starlight is a strong sort on looks, and is clear pick of the remainder.

3.10 Longines Sagaro Stakes (Group 3) (1) 1m7f209y

Timeform Top Rated:
131 4. TORCEDOR Mrs J. Harrington Colm O’Donoghue
128 3. MONTALY Andrew Balding William Buick
128 5. RAHEEN HOUSE Brian Meehan Jamie Spencer

Analyst’s Verdict:
A tough race to call but Time To Study won’t be lacking for fitness after his unfortunate defeat at Musselburgh and gives the impression he has an even bigger performance in him. Torcedor shaped as if amiss on his return at Meydan while Montaly ended last season with a couple of disappointing efforts, but both are big players if back to their best.

3.45 Merriebelle Stable Pavilion Stakes (Group 3) (1) 6f

Timeform Top Rated:
125 5. INVINCIBLE ARMY James Tate Ryan Moore
121 8. EIRENE Dean Ivory Robert Winston
120 7. SOUND AND SILENCE Charlie Appleby William Buick

Analyst’s Verdict:
Invincible Army kept running to a consistently high standard in turf pattern races last season, while also winning at this level at Kempton, and looks the one to beat. Sound And Silence has a similar profile to the selection and won the Windsor Castle at this track, while Eirene should have a good year judged on her promising comeback in the Nell Gwyn.

4.20 Celebrating The Commonwealth Paradise Stakes (Listed) (1) 1m

Timeform Top Rated:
134 1. ACCIDENTAL AGENT Eve Johnson Houghton Charles Bishop
132 7. VICTORY BOND William Haggas Ryan Moore
129 3. CENTURY DREAM Simon Crisford William Buick

Analyst’s Verdict:
Accidental Agent‘s Lockinge and Queen Anne entries catch the eye and he makes plenty of appeal on his return after a cracking end to 2017. The obvious danger is Victory Bond, who has been improving well on the AW and should be just as good back on turf. Hors de Combat has been placed in this race in the past and can’t be ruled out after winning in Dubai when last seen.

4.55 Manny Mercer Apprentice Handicap (4) 1m

Timeform Top Rated:
106 5. MOUNTAIN ANGEL Roger Varian David Egan
105 6. MR MINERALS Richard Hughes Finley Marsh (3)
105 8. SIR TITAN Marcus Tregoning Tyler Saunders (5)

Analyst’s Verdict:
Mountain Angel found a little more improvement when fifth at Newmarket last autumn and returns off a workable mark. He could be the answer to a tricky-looking finale. Glenn Coco, Love And Be Loved and Berkshire Boy are other key players.
